Teeth and dentures experiences

My dentist is saying that I should have teeth out to resolve a dull pain - but she can’t work out which could be the problem. Tooth 2 has most sensitivity but is saying is more likely to be 4 or 5 or 6 I am distressed by this as has the potential of ‘no that one didn’t resolve it lets move onto the next one and take that one out’. X-ray showed no infection but she contradicted herself saying could be a cracked allowing in bacteria which has caused a lump on gum. Personally I don’t think she has paid any attention to me being immunosuppressed and other health reasons meaning a lot more at risk of infections such as a plain old gum or mouth sore infection, she refused to prescribe anything. Just said prepare for dentures.

My purse is not rich enough for what would be preferred choice of implants.

Have done a bit of research and the flexible dentures seem good. As have a very high gag reflex I would be looking at a single tooth with non visible plastic clip as really don’t want anything around mouth or metal clips.
I would also want as instants as well so don’t have gaps at all as all teeth talking about are at the front. I see people and this is important to me

What are people’s experiences and how much have they paid?

Could you see another dentist? Yours seems unprofessional, proposing a guessing game with tooth extraction Shock

Fuchsia50 · 11/10/2019 11:35

That might be an option but I do have poor weak teeth that crack and break often with no sign of decay which is annoying.
Doing a root canal and crown has been discussed but as a quarter broken below gum line that is not an option, it has been filled repaired (about 3 years ago) instead.
She did ask another dentist at surgery who also could not see infection in pulp or at end of root but was not there so don’t know what actually said.

Sorry to clarify talking about the tooth she is saying start with.

I really sympathise, OP - my teeth are also quite bad (lots of root canals, bridges and crowns).
Bump and hope someone more knowledgeable comes along to advise.

Do you have a tooth that is actually brokem/painful or just a vague dull ache?

A cracked tooth is not infected but needs to come out regardless if it's causing symptoms. And she was right to not prescribe anything

They can be a nightmare can’t they. I don’t have any crowns or bridges as they have never broken In a way they can be used. With the exception of one occasion of a crown that would not stay where was mean to be and all removed in the end and the other teeth moved themselves to roughly fill the gap.

@BlueCornsihPixie
She suspects a crack or leak but does not know which one out of a few of them as can’t be seen and all usual tests are the same for all teeth. I do have a lump on gum which could be related or not as inbetween two other teeth. How this developed my view is more likely a gum pocket infection, but I am not a dentist but have done lots research.

As with a lot of people it is inevitable will lose a tooth so after others experiences of best options to fill the gap. Although inevitable will lose a tooth at some point I am not in agreement unless certain which is problematic.

I don't think they should be taking any teeth out if there's no obvious cause.

If there's a lump in the gum they should be able to use that to work out the cause! But if nothing on the x-ray yes it could be your gums.

The ache could be your sinuses or tmj, I really don't think you should be having any tooth out where they aren't sure if it needs to come out! Yes there could be a crack or a leaky restoration but you need to know which tooth has the crack/leak

I have a flexible partial denture which replaces a missing lower molar, it cost about £300. It’s a single tooth which clips on to the neighbouring teeth, no plate. The clips are gum coloured, but also a bit transparent.

It needed a bit of adjusting because it caused ulcers initially, but after that it has been great. I had the gap for years because it’s not visible, but I am really pleased with the denture - I realise that is a different situation to you though, with front teeth.

I keep it in one of those little pots from Boots which is for decanting products into for travel, clean it with soap and water, and it doesn’t need any adhesive or anything. I tend to give it a rinse under the tap after lunch at work, then clean it ad take it out after dinner at home.

I had impressions done, then got a tooth made of wax to try in, then the final denture, so three appointments. I went back after a few days to have it tweaked, which my dentist had told me to expect.
