Knee trouble

Hi all,

About 6 weeks ago I slipped and fell on a wet pavement. I landed on my left knee but my right leg was the one that slipped and hyperextended.
It was a bit uncomfortable to start with but I was more worried about my weight landing on a hard pavement on my left knee!

Well the left knee has recovered but increasingly over the last 3 weeks my right knee is giving me problems. It gives way without warning, or even pain (about 50% of the time) it clicks and pops with almost every movement, and I don't have the full range of movement - which has slowly become less and less. I can't walk downstairs properly now because my knee won't bend far as far as needed, I'm struggling getting out of the bath and I can't kneel on it at all. Going upstairs is a bit easier as I can 'swing' the leg rather than bend the knee. It's not that painful, it does hurt sometimes when it gives way, or with some pops and cracks but there's no pattern to it, except it hurts to kneel on it every time and force it into a kneel position it doesn't want to go (but used to and has until 3 weeks ago, and has since I fell) it's also swelling, sometimes quite badly, but others barely noticeable - again with no obvious correlation between exercise or rest etc.
I have an appointment next week at the Dr, but googling has thrown up an awful lot of potential conditions.
Just wondering if anyone else has had these symptoms and what they had diagnosed and what the treatment was, or if anyone has any more ideas for self treatment. I've been gently walking, have iced it twice a day, elevation and rest, and I've been taking ibuprofen regularly and paracetamol in addition if I've been in pain.
