Probiotics to counter antibiotics

I have to begin a course of antibiotics before a dental procedure and I know that antibiotics damage the good bacteria in the gut. I’d like to take a course of probiotics to counterbalance the antibiotics. Some are expensive and I wonder if they are worth it, so can anyone recommend a really reliable multi probiotic.

Hello, not suRe if this is right but was told probiotics like the drinks are a waste of time, better and cheaper to eat food that helps build the right environment. All I can remember is leeks! Best get googling 😁

Plain unsweetened natural yogurt is the best

Thank you for your advice managedmis (and from now onbreakfast is going to include plain, unsweetened live yogurt) but
I understand I’d need a lot of yoghurt to restock and support the good gut bacteria destroyed by the antibiotics. I also want a high power probiotic for a short course to restore gut health as soon as possible after the antibiotics.

Hello aagh, I’ll google leeks - that is a new one on me! I’m filling the freezer with home made soup prior to the procedure (dental implants with some bone surgery to strengthen and widen the jaw bone supporting them). I’ll include leek and potato in that soup fest.....

You need to take the probiotics after the course of anti biotics is finished.

I like the Nutrigold ones you can buy online. Pay as much as you can afford.

Yoghurt doesn't do much but kefir is quite good. I take my own home made stuff - not sure about the supermarket kefir.

It absolutely does make a difference and "science" is slowly catching up with what naturopaths have known for decades.

Thanks to The Clitterati, I will finish my course of antibiotics and I will check out the Nutrigold range. I am also curious about kefirI - have seen a lot of interest in it lately.I’ve got quite a bit to work on here but I do agree that we are learning a lot more about the importance of both sleep and of gut health, I have never considered either but I’m starting to cut down on caffeine and my socialising involves a very great deal less alcohol. The only problem with that is that if you do have a drink you look really terrible because you can see the difference in yourself the next day....
