Advice wanted! What to do re: ovarian ultrasound results

I am 50 & had a hysterectomy three years ago (b/c of fibroids), but left my ovaries. I went to the GP a few weeks ago because I’ve been very bloated and gassy and tired. She referred me for a pelvic ultrasound & CA125. Have not had blood work yet but got results from ultrasound today. On one ovary there are possible intra ovarian dermoid cysts, but this was not conclusive. I am FREAKING out. I don’t have pain, just bloating that comes & goes. I know no one can give me a definitive answers but any advice for how to deal with this, including questions to ask and how to interpret results would be appreciated. I’m really scared. And expect bloods to not be normal.

Aw I'm sorry op, you must be really worried. I'm sorry there isn't much I can say.
How long do you have to wait for bloods? Maybe when they are back you will know more.

Hi @Murna
I am waiting for a surgery date after having a diagnosis of massive borderline malignant cysts on both my ovaries 😢
I only found out 3 weeks ago, and only knew about them after they were picked up after having an MRI scan for an ongoing problem with sciatica.
I’m seeing my Consultant tomorrow to get the results of a CT scan and blood tests I had done last week.
I am absolutely terrified ☹️

Hi @fudgesmummy, I hope your appointment today went OK. I know the wait until this point was excruciating.

Borderline cysts are clinically benign. They used to be called 'low malignant potential'- meaning that less than 5% of them would eventually turn into cancer.

It's v confusing! But the bottom line is that they're cured by surgery, no further treatment, just monitoring to make sure you're not one of the very few unlucky ones.

If you look on the NHS or CRUK sites, they explain it better than me.

No one wants surgery, but I hope your consultant has been able to reassure you. I had a 23 cm cyst which weighed 2 kilos, and no further ovarian problems. But make sure your surgeon is a gynaeoncologist to be on the safe side.

Op - I don't know much about dermoid cysts, but I think they're usually benign?
