Hypothyroidism

Hi, have posted this on a thyroid thread in Conception too, as I have discovered this issue due to TTC issues/3 CPs.

I’ve had confusing test results, after requesting all previous blood tests this year from my previous GP. Any advice on what it means? The Jan & May results were posted to me only yesterday.

In January this year I visited my GP with exhaustion and my results were TSH 4.48, T4 16.9. I wasn’t told this, all results “normal” and was given iron supplements (ferritin 19). However, now that I see my print out, it advised retesting and TPO.

In May 2019 TSH was 1.9 and T4 15.22 (I conceived around this time but lost it at 5 weeks). Ferritin is always 19-24, even now.

In September my results were TSH 4.09 and T4 15.6, again “normal” but fertility consultant (3 CPs now) said they were not and started me on 50mg Levo.

I was tested again, as was in for day 21 test, and results are (after 2 weeks on Levo) TSH 1.54, T4 18, T3 4.9 and TPO

You need to have regular antibody tests. One won’t give the full picture for Hashimotos, if needed that is what you have. My antibodies were over 150 and my TSH in over 7 when I was given my first ‘normal’ result by the GP - it was my fertility consultant who prescribed thyroxine and allowed me to ttc and sustain my pregnancy.

I'm not sure about the actual levels but I have a similar issue with my thyroid in that my levels are really up and down. GP told me to stop worrying, it wasn't causing my losses and to forget about it. All completely normal. HOWEVER my recent appointment with my RMC specialist and she was like your levels are in range but only just and I will be put on meds in any new pregnancy. Bear in mind that your levels for conception and pregnancy should be way lower than the 'normal' range the GP will be testing to. If you could get a printout from the RCOG or something to take with you they might take you seriously but honestly they could well try to fob you off as mine have. And my GP is actually really good, which is why I listened!

Apologies for the essay Blush

Thank you both. And yes, it was the fertility consultant who flagged my levels as too high and said they should be under 2.5.
