Has anyone ever suddenly stopped having periods?

I'm 24, healthy and have conceived twice before but both ended up in miscarriage and D&C. I haven't fallen pregnant in over two years now but have been tracking my periods naturally to avoid pregnancy. It wouldn't be a nightmare if we did get pregnant but I've been avoiding it.

I haven't had a period for four months now, my cycles were long anyway around 33-35 days but I've never not had a period... I've been to my GP who said if could be stress. I wouldn't say I'm having a particular stressful period though.

Any ideas?

I had this it was called secondary amenohhrea. They weren't sure what caused it and I was trying to conceive at time. They thought it might have been low body weight, I was about nine stone and five eight.

I was sent to hospital and saw a consultant and given a scan to ensure I wasn't pregnant. They decided to give me fertility drugs to bring my periods back. But bizzarely I found out I was pregnant the day I was to collect them. I was then taken under consultant care for my pregnancy as dating the pregnancy was complex and not an exact art and if they were two weeks or more out it could have been fatal for my daughter or I if I went over term.

The key point is I was clearly still ovulating even though not having periods and fell pregnant despite the absence of them.

Go see your doctor again, see if there is something they can do to help you.

@Bluntness100 I've just read up about it and it says some medication used to treat cancer can cause it. I haven't had cancer, thankfully, but one of the medications was used for something else. It could be that but I would have thought it would be out my system a long, long time ago now.

I'm hopeful it can be treated! Worrying now.

I did, I think it coincided with a really stressful period which also started my IBS - I had a 5 month gap, period, then another 5 month gap. After that it all went back to normal.

Then again my periods were pretty irregular from 13-18, and had only been regular for a year when this happened.

They’ve not gone entirely but they are soo much lighter than they used to be.

I think for me it’s a combination of getting older and no longer using contraception.

Are you able to go to a gynaecologist privately?

How much do you weigh/height and amount of exercise per week?

My periods stop if my weight goes too low, if I exercise too much, or if I have lots of stress. For me limit is around 8st7lb at 5ft6 - if I go down to near this weight or lower they stop + they are much more regular when above 9stone than below 9stone. Last lot of university exams I was very stressed and they didn't come back for about 4 months.

They have been more regular since having children (had children in my mid 20s and now in my early 30s). In my 20s I would have long cycles sometimes up to 45 days and easily stop with stress, now they are mostly regular ~30 days but even so still get the odd random missed one/late cycle.

Sorry to hear that. Is there a treatment plan available?
