Infected ankle, should i see a doctor?

I managed to somehow knick my ankle (inside boney bit) on the bottom of my high heel last night and it really hurt but it was late so i just left it overnight. Dumb, i know. It's small but had been bleeding and is deeper than i thought. I showered in the morning but didn't properly clean it specifically.

Looked at it this afternoon as its been quite sore and gave it a proper clean with tcp and put some antiseptic cream on. It started oozing white pus, so i cleaned it again and put the cream on. Did this a few times over the evening and it's still sore. I've reapplied antiseptic cream and covered it in a cotton bud and tape to go to bed. (I'm in australia so it's bed time here)

Would you see the gp about this in the morning or should i just deal with it in my own? What would suggest it isn't getting better?

I'm 37w pregnant too, if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance

I'm not medically qualified. Nobody can give you guarantee over Internet.

I would go on how I feel. I would expect it to continue to be sore for days or maybe 2 weeks. I'd take today as baseline & it should not get worse. I'd see someone if it got noticeably worse than it is now.

White fluid isn't pus, its lymph and shows the presence of white blood cells. If there is any swelling draw around it with a biro and see if it gets any worse. If it hurts significantly, leaks anything yellow or smelly, ir feels hot to the touch, go to your GP. Otherwise keep it clean and covered.

@CucinaBreakfast yes being 37w pregnant does make a difference. You do not want a skin infection this close to giving birth. Have you checked your temperature today and does the skin around the cut look more red or inflamed?

CucinaBreakfast · 23/09/2019 12:08

Hi kinderegg haven't checked temp but feeling ok in myself, and no change to the cut. I took off the plaster earlier and the white gunk was still there (on the plaster), not a lot. Cleaned it and put more antiseptic on. I think i might pop to the gp tomorrow then if you think the pregnancy element is an issue. Thank you!
