Sudden loss of arm

I am hoping for some guidance. over the weekend, I had a problem with my neck and couldn't turn it. I woke up Monday morning and my neck felt better. However, when I went to shower, I could not move my left arm. I have very little muscle control. My family has a history of strokes and I have high cholesterol. I went to see a nurse practitioner, who said give it 2 weeks. I cannot drive and finding it difficult to go about my daily life.

I went to a chiropractor, who I have been to before. He did all the tests and said that my loss of movement is not normal and after an assessment said that I must go back to GP for a scan to see what is happening. He cannot treat me without ruling out a slipped disc.

Has anyone else had or heard of this happening? My signs don't match anything for herniated disc or pinched nerve. Stroke...possibly but no other signs. thoughts are appreciated.

I'd be presenting at A&E with that. Loss of limb movement is a pretty big thing to just leave for 2 weeks with no identified cause.

You really need to go to A&E.
The sudden loss of movement could be a nerve problem - leaving it increases the risk of permanent damage if it is.

Could well be frozen shoulder....Adhesive Capulitis, this is exactly how mine started

However if you have strong concerns maybe phone 101?

Also What tests did the nurse do while you were with her? This would help 101 and is offer more structured advice.

Do you have any other signs of stroke?
• Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arms, or legs, especially on one side of the body.
• Sudden trouble speaking or understanding.
• Confusion.
• Sudden vision problems in one or both eyes.
• Dizziness, loss of balance, or sudden trouble walking.
• Severe headache with no obvious cause.
If you have a combination of these I strongly suggest 101 urgently for advice as they can do a phone triage and Dr consultation and offer advice on how to proceed

Urgent medical review, not watch and wait for 2/52.

A family member had this, she knew enough to take herself to hospital. It was a blood clot. Not to worry you but do please seek medical attention as soon as you can - far better to rule this out than to wait and see.

A&E but I did click on this thinking you’d literally lost your arm in some freak accident!

Don’t bother with 111. Go to a hospital. You need examining, and imaging.

Though I’ll be honest, they will look somewhat askance at you pitching up in ED at this time of night with those symptoms left for so long.... just tell them a forum told you to add no further delay!

It absolutely could be due to a herniated disc in your cervical spine. And with your presentation of neck pain I’d want exactly the same as your chiro (osteo here)

Nurse seemed far too blase for a new presentation.

Hope you’re OK. I have health anxiety so can’t imagine being so relaxed about losing the use of your arm! Hope you get properly tested and get some clarity on what’s causing it.

Hi. I was in for quite awhile and told it is not a stroke and that I have to go back to GP for a scan. They would not look into it further. so go for an emergency appt at gp to get a referral as i still cannot move my arm. I have spoken to a physio and a chiropractor and advised this is serious, but not to myGP or hospital. I will try again,

The chiropractor should also be able to make a referral either back to your GP or a consultant.
