How much is it to have a private consultation with a specialist?? I have a chest appointment to see a consultant in January and I cannot wait that long. I have breath difficulties

Can anybody advise me please?

Google for private hospitals in your area then phone them and ask for initial consultation prices. Round here it's approx £200 for a first appointment with a consultant. Tests, prescriptions etc are extra.
Have you been back to the GP and asked them to contact the hospital and try to expedite your appointment? Sorry you are suffering

You can call the doctors secretary and say you would like to go private, see if the doctor has a private list. Nuffield Health offer private consultations, look at their website for your area, BUPA probably also have this. My private initial consultation was £200 with an NHS doctor who also takes private patients.

I’m SE and it’s between 200-250 for the initial consultation however you may well have bloods , tests and drugs on top of that before you can get moved back to the NHS . I recommend that you pick a consultant that does NHS work at the hospital you wish to attend for the best possibility of a seamless transfer back to NHS care .

I'm in north east England and found a consultant through spirehealthcare and it was £200 for first appointment and £110 for appointments after for the same issue.

If you have a local Spire hospital, they put the cost of initial consultations on consultant webpages. Private hospital
phone staff are also very used to people needing to know the price upfront. Good luck x

I went private for gallbladder issues, after being told there was a 6 month wait on the NHS. I saw the Consultant, had an ultrasound done by a Consultant radiologist and blood tests. Cost around £700 all in but was worth every penny tbh for the reassurance and took around 2 hours in total.

Ring the NHS consultant's Secretary and see if they have any cancellations - you can often get seen quicker if you can get there at short notice

Be prepared though for them not to tell you much on that first appointment and that you need a number of tests before he can make a diagnosis, which is likely what they would do in their NHS practice.

So you need to consider what you would do in that instance. Could you afford to pay more?

Also could you travel? You could find out the wait in other hospitals and ask your GP to refer you there. You can go anywhere in the country you like.

Problem of course is again if they want to do tests and you have to travel more than once or twice.
