Get so much sleep but constantly exhausted

sydneyslife · 16/09/2019 17:48

I get a minimum of 8 hours sleep every night (sometimes more) but am constantly exhausted!

For example last night I slept for 11 hours and right now I am so tired that my eyes are burning and I have no energy to do absolutely anything.

Does anyone else experience this? Could it be that I am oversleeping which is making me more tired? Im not really worried about it but just wondering if it's normal or not

Have your bloods checked at the doctors it could be anaemia, low vitamin d, low vitamin B12.

do you snore?
do you have a co2 monitor in your home? do you feel worse in the mornings compared to afternoon?

agree with pp, a gp visit to check you over might be a good idea!

For me it's usually snoring (disturbed sleep) and bad diet & dehydration. I love my sleep, 11 hrs is too much for me though and I can be overtired. 8-9hrs is perfect.
I'm partial to a beige diet but when I start eating more nutritious foods my sleep improves and I wake more refreshed. Must be a vitamin thing.

Also pregnancy was a killer for tiredness and broken sleep.

Are you getting enough exercise? I'm sure it's the last thing you feel like doing if you're exhausted, but sometimes a brisk walk can really wake you up. Paradoxically, doing something energetic can give you more energy! So if you are generally sedentary, try building a 15 or 20 minute walk into your day and see if that helps...you might find you sleep better too (quality rather than quantity). Otherwise, GP visit for blood tests.

Agree with @Wiltshirelass2019, first step would be to get your iron and ferritin, vitamin D and B12 levels tested, maybe thyroid too. Also, get a copy of your levels; UK guidelines for D are outdated and GP advice/treatment is often lacking, and low end of 'normal' ranges for all these tests can mean you will have deficiency of insufficiency symptoms. If you can rule these in our out, you'll hopefully be on the right road to figuring out why you're feeling like this.

It was low iron for me
