To pox or not to pox....

Why do I always seem to end up posting poxy threads??

Neither child has been "right" all week. DS went a bit spotty yesterday, but just like lots of little teenager spots, and a big puss one on his top lip.

DD had a small red/brown dot on her chin and her cheek.

This morning DD's are red looking round the outside (like a fresh bite) with a slight clear centre too them (tried to take pics but they came out too fuzzy to see more than the redness... will post them if you want!

She says they itch.

Pox, not pox? Wait a couple of hours and see if she is covered??

Sounds like pox to me... ds2 currently has them (although we're on day 5 and they're mostly scabbed now thank god)

If you give them a bath and they are suddenly covered then you know it is Chicken Pox. However, there are other rashes that can cause that kind of reaction. My kids once got Hot tub folliculitis from playing in a spa (and they look similar to pox). You just never know.

Good Luck!!!

oooh... so bath after brekkie it is!

If all else fails I tend to call Psychomum and take my spotty children over to her where she peers and says yay or nay

Not too bad actually - was great timing - 2 days after we'd returned from our camping trip and 8 days before they're due to go to their grandparents for a week. Weather is good, so they're playing outside in the back garden. No neighbourhood kids visiting the pox household so it's lovely and quiet and I don't have to sit on the front doorstep doing nothing while supervising

Of course, slight problem in that I haven't had chickenpox yet - I've had the vaccination but an immunity test when I was pregnant with ds2 was negative. So I have to wait and see whether it was a false negative and whether I'll come down with it or not in a fortnight's time. Joy

Just been through it with DD - she was half child half pizza

Get a load of calamine in ( cream version is easier to apply) I also gave her some piriton anti - histamine at night which really helped with the itching - oatmeal baths help too as can some bicarb in the bath and just watch those poxy poxes appear !!

Best of British and all that !!
