Bubble,that stuff never works.
Get yerself out to an aerobics class.
Do ya good in more ways than one.

moondog · 09/08/2007 22:01

It works (I go to gum a lot) but not at home.Anyway, you will be like a hamster on a wheel.Get thee to a jolly class full of pleasant women or a nice gym.

expatinscotland · 09/08/2007 22:02

The only time it works is when you have space and dosh enough to have the exact equipment you'd see in a commercial gym in your home.

I'd go the route of DVDs before investing in any equipment for that reason.

You also need to be very disciplined.

moondog · 09/08/2007 22:04

Leaving the house to go to a class is my social life these days and i always mutter 'You will never regret going, but always regret not going.'

moondog · 09/08/2007 22:04

It's pleasant to run by a fit young chap anyway.

expatinscotland · 09/08/2007 22:04

I actually prefer doing it at home, but I'm a loner by nature.

Bubble99 · 09/08/2007 22:04

Do you have a glueing addiction, MD?

Yes, classes are good but my days are packed at the moment and I'm knackered in the evenings. Also, we're opposite some very pretty, but very isolated woods and I wouldn't feel safe running there on my own.

My sister gave me her old rowing machine. It's a bit crappy but I have promised myslef if I use it for at least 10 mins every day for 3 months I will buy a better one.

I am on day 2 and had to stop afetr 6 minutes as so unfit but hey, I'm working up to it!

Speak to me again in 3 months.

I'm too tired in the evenings to trail off to the gym, and other than that I don;t get the chance to do any exercise.

expatinscotland · 09/08/2007 22:06

I'd start with a good yoga DVD of an evening.

I like 'Yoga for Stress'.

StarryStarryNight · 09/08/2007 22:06

We have an exercise bike. I never use it.

MY husband does. But he is exercise mad. He uses his bike rather than motorbike or car everywhere he goes. And he goes on a 30 minute cycle ride every day (I take more than an hour on the same stretch of road and i go as fast as I can). My husband goes to the gym once a week. AND he uses the exercise bikes late at night, during a movie, if he realizes it is to late to cycle to the gym as the gym will be closing, and he has not had ANY exercise this day. So, no, he could not live with out it.

Sheherazadethegoat · 09/08/2007 22:07

i have a cross trainer which i use alot in the winter - run outside in summer.

honestly, i think alot of people get these thing and never use them.

even if you are knackered going out to a class will revitalise you.

moondog · 09/08/2007 22:07

Y'ssee everyone says they are too tired of an evening but your slobbing on sofa makes you tired.Don't yuo see?

binklehasflipped · 09/08/2007 22:07

treadmill, rowing machine, bike, core strength ball, abs roller, free weights, punch bag....all happily static under at least an inch of dust..

Sheherazadethegoat · 09/08/2007 22:10

if you find a nice friendly class you will actually look forward to it. i consider my pilates class a 'social event'.

Bubble99 · 09/08/2007 22:19

We've got a YMCA gym very nearby. With a creche. I'll have a look tomorrow.

Thanks all.

binkle. Dusting counts as exercise, doesn't it?

Have a cross trainer, was using it for 30min every day, but now stopped as pregnant (37wks).

Bought it because none of the gyms near us have a cheche. The only gym near us with a creche is David Lloyd but they wanted £130 per month for membership the £3.50 an hour for the creche.

I will be back on the cross trainer as soon as i can. I also add that DD preschool is just over 1/2mile away so will also be walking 2.4 miles a day from 13th September.
