Are some people's thermostats just set a couple of degrees cooler than others?

I think most women are like this (generalising hugely) My feet are always cold at night in bed. However, to completely contradict myself, my mum always used to accuse me of having water for blood and now my eldest daughter does as well.

So, in answer to you question, yes

meandmyflyingmachine · 09/08/2007 17:47

I am also a bit of a poikilotherm.

Dh is soundly homoiothermic.

We are incomatible...

how much do you move around?
sounds silly but kids are always warm because they never stop moving!!

when i'm out and about active i'm generally warmer but in my house (we face the wrong way so no direct sun at all) i can be wearing a jumper and when i go out i always get comments as to how cold bloodied i am.

that must be annoying prunners -knowing how many layers to put on then take off then put on again!

LaDiDaDi · 09/08/2007 18:06

I'm the same and dp is the opposit. If I thinkit's warm enough for a walk out he usually thinks it's far too hot.

I am the same. I do have a thyroid condition but I also think women are more often like this than men.

And just as described on here, if I get cold, I can't warm myself up. I have to stay warm to keep warm which is why when people say "take your coat off or you won't feel the benefit when you go outside" - it totally doesn't apply to me. I need to keep my coat on at all times so that when I do go outside I have a reasonable body temp to keep me going.

FrayedKnot · 09/08/2007 21:31

I have similar but it is more being able to adjust to extremes of temperature.

In the winter, I get into bed in several layers and sometimes socks, with a hot water bottle.

DH thinks it's hilarious as he sleeps in the buff all year round.

In the summer, if the temp goes over about 25-26 (so not at all THIS year!) I can;t cope eitehr.

last year we had a month of over 30 most days and I spent the whole time lurking indoors feeling horrible.

Over the last couple of years I have also started to have what I can only think are hot flushes, msotly at night, so I go to bed in teh layers and then I wake up and chuck them all off

My thermostat is obviously completely b*ered

I do have an underactive thyroid
