dd2+3 have very flushed faces, pinker than normal lips and red skin around the eyes. they only feel slightly warmer than normal.

any ideas? both have been grumpy and tired as well today despite sleeping well.

they could be brewing something. I'd give them a dose of calpol before bed.

notnowbernard · 08/08/2007 19:13

Slapped-cheek?
Have they got a sort of lacy rash on their arms or legs?

Smithy · 08/08/2007 19:14

There have been loads of virus's around recently. Both ds1 and ds2 were laid low for a few days with temperature, headache, rashes and coughs. I got tonsillitis out of it and dh had a really bad cold too. They had what I would call high colour and looked red / tired round the eyes too.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 08/08/2007 19:15

no lacy rash. not sure its like the rash dd2 had last year with suspoected slapped cheek.

is slapped cheek dangerous to pregnant ladies? just dd2 is meant to be at sparklys house on friday and she is pregnant.

DD1 and 2 looked like that when the mealses rash started but they had been ill for a few days before hand.

goingfor3 · 08/08/2007 19:16

Lsapped cheek is dangerous for pregnant ladies in the first and second trimester.

notnowbernard · 08/08/2007 19:16

I think it can be dangerous in the first trimester. DD1 had slapped-cheek afew weeks ago

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 08/08/2007 19:18

she is in last trimester i think.

they dont seem unwell as such, but just not right iykwim.

will give them a dose of medised before bed (no caslpol left) and see how they go.

Just to put your mind at rest, if it is slapped cheek it is definitely only harmful to pregnant ladies in the 1st trimester. I know because I am a teacher and therefore potentially at high risk of exposure. Dr told me when I was pregnant with ds.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 08/08/2007 20:39

ok thank you.

dd3 top lip is very red now. bu no extra rashes. will keep a close eye on them both.

Slapped cheek is potentially dangerous to pregnant women up to 20 weeks LVOC. After that it's not a problem.
I know this because I had an exposure scare at 19 weeks which my consultant took very seriously.
The majority of adults born in the UK are immune - it is endemic here in childhood, so the chances are sparkly is OK anyway. How many weeks is she?

Marina · 08/08/2007 20:41

X-posted. Even if it is slapped cheek sparkly will be OK then

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 08/08/2007 21:46

can you get slapped cheek more than once? as dd2 has had it before.

OP posts:

I believe not. I think one bout usually means lifelong immunity.
