Should I go back to the opticians?

I got my first pair of glasses when I started school age 5, for reading. I'm long sighted and have astigmatism. My eyesight has never been bad though and I didn't ever really find a difference wearing them. My eyes would sometimes get tired especially when at uni in front of a computer for hours so I would wear them then but equally I could go months without putting them on.

I'm now in my 30s and started to get pain behind my eyes about a year ago, I never noticed a difference in my vision. I went to the optician who said my eyesight had changed only very slightly but then mentioned something (other than the astigmatism) which means my eyes have to work hard to focus both close up and faraway which is causing the headaches and pain behind my eyes. She advised I started wearing my glasses all the time, which I have duly done. She also said that my prescription would likely get quite a bit stronger over the next few years.

However, I now can't go even 10 minutes without my glasses without this horrible pain! It makes me really irritable (eg if I forget to put them on and nip out to the shop, even the 15 mins it takes me to get ready after my shower!). It's not that I can't see, it's just I get this horrible achey feeling. I sometimes get it even with my glasses on.

Is this normal? Should I try lenses?

You should go back to the optician. They have better tools for diagnosis than GPS do, and can refer you to hospital if necessary.

Yes, I would, but keep a record over the next we’ll of what times of day you’re getting the pain, what you were doing at the time and what the light level was like.
It may just be that you need something that’s Better for distance and near than you currently have.
