HPV vaccination for older teen boys/young men?

I've read about this before. Girls get this at school and young teenage boys get it
But older boys would be from it but need to pay for it.

Has anyone here paid?
Has anyone got advice for a mum with 2 older boys/men

I'd pay but don't know what it's about

My DS will be 16 shortly & I looked into it. Three doses are required at that age, one a year for 3 years. Cost would be about £600.

Would benefit ^

Yes my two eldest boys had it privately as I felt very strongly about it so discussed it with them
Protects their future female partners but also themselves from types of oral and anal cancer
Hence why now rolled out to routine vacc for younger boys
If you can afford it I’d do it

Gulp that's a lot

Wonder if it's worth it/necessary?

There's not much information on it yet

I paid to have it done (got tested first to make sure I was negative), if you pay you are given a slightly different vaccine that covers more strains.

I could now get it for free in my area, but I’m glad I paid to have it done, I’ll pay for my son to have it if the NHS don’t change which vaccine they use.

Mine has had it this year (age 15). Three injections over 6 months, £475 at Boots. They have a lot of information on their website.

That's interesting Simon, I didn't realise the vaccines were different. Can I ask, why is it free in your area for yourself now? If it's something personal I respect you not answering me.
I think I'll need to ask my gp for advice. Is this the best port of call?

I hadn't thought of Boots, thank you.

Boots do the brand that covers more strains of HPV. I’m in an at risk group so it has been free in England since mid 2018 upto the age of 45.

Thanks. I had a look at the Boots website, it seems quite straightforward.

This is interesting, I will have a look into it.
