Hi

Does anyone know if a local anesthetic goes into the bloodstream?

Also, is 0.3 lidocaine a large dose?

Thank you xx

0.3 what of what...ml/mg of what concentration lidocaine?

How much local gets into the circulation depends on many things, for example, where it’s injected, how vascular the tissue it’s injected into, how much (volume & concentration) is injected. Lidocaine can be given intravenously in some situations (the same however is not true for all local anaesthetics).

Oops sorry.

Yes, it's Licodaine.

I'm having lip fillers and it come with 0.03 of Lidocaine in it.

It’s still not clear without the units. You probably mean 0.3% lidocaine (ie. 3mg/ml). The ‘safe’ dose of lidocaine for infiltration is 3-7mg/kg (depending on whether there’s adrenaline in the mixture as well). I imagine the volume of filler injected is low and that the total dose of lidocaine will be low (but I have absolutely no experience of fillers so could be wrong!).

If the person injecting the filler should be able to explain what dose of drug is being used, whether there are any potential side effects & how they would manage those side effects and if they can’t they shouldn’t be doing the injections.

@Greybeardy

Hi, thank you so much.

I did ask the lady and you were correct Smile

I appreciate your help.

The lady I use is very good - good medical background and I did a lot of research beforehand.

I was particularly concerned as my sister has Brugada Syndrome and they don't think I have it but am still under investigation. My Ajmaline Challenge was negative.

I understand that Lidocaine, if it goes into the bloodstream, can cause an arrhythmia.

Also, having a severe anxiety disorder doesn't help either.

Surely Any injection will eventually get absorbed into the blood system however small the dose

Oldmum55 · 31/08/2019 16:37

Yes for the simple reason that when I have had a local anaesthetic for a filling my heart beats faster. So I mentioned it to the dentist and they now give me one without adrenaline.

@Oldmum55

Ah yes, I've heard that the adrenaline does that - this didn't have any.

I don’t really see the point of cosmetic injectables containing local anaesthetic. The effect of LA isn’t instant so imo, the fillers are still painful.

Hmmm, I had numbing cream on beforehand, and then when she injected, the local in the filler made my lips feel enormous!

I think it has a lot to do with the injector too - this was a different lady I used this time and she was amazing! The pain was barely anything.

I suppose nowadays everyone wants everything to be as pain free as possible.

I've had barely any swelling too.
