Any opticians can explain prescription

My 19 year old DS went for 2 year eye test today. I was looking at his prescription compared to last time and the sphere column has gone from -0.75 in the right eye to +0.25. The left eye has gone from -0.25 to +0.75. I thought short sightedness would get worse not change to longsightedness, or have I got that all wrong?

The cyl ones have changed from plus to minus and axis totally different. Does this mean the glasses he's been wearing over the past year haven't really been doing much?

Thanks

What is the full prescription? They can be written in plus or minus cyl. So it can seem different but when transposed into the same sign cyl, they could actually be similar.

Thanks for your reply. The top picture is 2 years ago and the bottom today. They just look totally different to me but then I can't really work out what they mean.

There is very little difference between the 2 prescriptions, small change in R & a minimal change in L.
I explain to my patients that the whole plus/minus cyl thing is like the 12hr/24hr clock, ie: when written down 5pm looks very different to 17:00 but it's exactly the same thing.
Neither way is right/wrong/better, it depends where you trained, when you trained & where you've worked as to which version you work in & some of us switch between the 2 depending on the prescription!

Thanks so much. I had tried googling but couldn't make much sense of it and started to wonder if they'd made a mistake with the plus/minus! Much appreciated.
