Pain after filling? Also teeth grinding question.

I’ve had a filling replaced but the tooth also had a hairline crack. Apparently it’s 50/50 whether or not the tooth can be saved. Now the anaesthetic is wearing off it’s still really painful. I don’t recall any other fillings being this bad. Is it likely to get better? If it doesn’t then how long should I leave it before I go back?

It wasn’t 100% clear if that tooth was the problem and also causing referred pain in the one in front, or the one in front was causing an issue. X-ray didn’t show anything obvious.

I do grind my teeth and wear a mouth guard at night. Other than the grinding/clenching the dentist said my teeth looked fine. Has anyone had any success in stopping grinding their teeth?

And just to complicate matters my sinuses are now hurting with pain over my cheekbone on the same side. I honestly don’t know what’s what.

The nerve in the tooth is probably dying. When a nerve dies you get pain in the jaw on the same side as the tooth. It feels like several teeth are affected but it actually stems from one. You may find the tooth sensitive to heat.

Oh dear. Dentist has suggested going back in a couple of weeks to review it so I’ve booked another appointment.

Oddly heat seems to help at present - I’ve had some warm soup and it seemed to soothe it. I’ve also bought half the pharmacy to try and sort out the sinus pain.

I've had pain after having a filling, op, it settled down after a few days
and no pain since - touch wood.

I'm another chronic teeth grinder, I've had bite guards for decades,
still going my teeth though.
Practically all my teeth have moved position, one of my front ones
sticks out now.
Even had an horrendous operation on my jaw - still grind my teeth.
Wish there was a cure - it's the bane of my life.

grinding not going

I’ve been reading tips online. Apparently you should sit with your mouth open to retrain yourself. Not sure how that will go at work.

I have also read that you can have Botox injections in the jaw, but they can cause bone loss so I’m not sure that’s the right direction.

Gah, it was a lot better, but I’ve been poking the area with my tongue and now it’s sore again. Yes, I will endeavour to stop poking it.

I have read that composite fillings can take a couple of weeks to settle down so I hope it’s just that.

How are you getting on now OP? I'm going through the exact same thing just now... any update would be appreciated Smile
