Vaginal itch during period and soreness (help)

SheepGoesBaa · 28/08/2019 20:03

I seem to come down with a vaginal itch when I'm on my period. It's not bothersome or troublesome whatsoever except for at night. I started a period last Saturday and it's easing off now. I woke this morning and my hands were a mess. I was scratching myself in my sleep but I wasn't aware of it. My vagina is so so so so sore now. Its only sore when I pee and its very sore.

What sanitary products do you use? Are they scented?

W0rriedMum · 28/08/2019 20:05

Are you wearing scented sanitary pads?
Maybe try using a non-scented brand (e.g. Bodyform) to see if the problem goes away. I used a couple in an emergency and had the same issue!

Another one asking if you use pads. I had problems and found using organic cotton products really helped. They’re unscented and most importantly bleach free.

I use Natracare or TOMMS depending on which supermarket I’m in and they’ve both been great.

I use pads and they are not scented. I use the always maxi pads. I think what happened, the period was easing and I went into work where I was unbelievably busy all day and that was that. I didn't change again until I made it home from work at about 8.

Pads make me sore. Scented ones more-so but all of them a little bit.

Mythreeknights · 29/08/2019 14:35

Try mixing coconut oil and tea tree oil and putting that on your sore skin at night. Coconut oil is soothing and tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic.

Do you often go for long periods of time without changing your pad? If you do that'll absolutely be your issue.

SheepGoesBaa · 01/09/2019 15:00

The itching stopped. I took ibuprofen for a day and the pain stopped. Thank goodness.

AmIthough,
I had a few long days last week and I find it hard to grab a few minutes to go to the toilet. My schedule should be easing up now so hopefully next time I have my period it won't be as hectic.

Someone here suggested organic cotton pads and I will be going down this route. I also checked online this morning for reusable pads and I bought a selection of reusable pads and I will be going down this route to avoid the plastic-y feel of the pads I currently use.

I sturggle with disposable pads for same reason and i change regularly. I switched to resuable pads about 3 months ago and so glad i did so much better.

Could it be thrush? Sometimes it's triggered by periods...

Wereonabearhunt · 01/09/2019 17:27

All typical highstreet pads make me really itchy..at night. I started using the cottons brand in boots and ive had no issues since. I darent use tampons after getting TSS as a teen.

Bodyform make a sensitive pad (I order online from Superdrug), it isn't as plasticy as the rest, really helps prevent the chapped/itchy feeling for me.

SheepGoesBaa · 01/09/2019 21:17

Thanks for your replies everyone. Even when I do change regularly, I find I itch at nighttime during my period. I don't know if its thrush. My period is finished now and the itch is gone. I was coming to the end of my cycle when I wrote the original post, but I continued to stain for another day or two and I suspect I tore myself with scratches.

I tried many different pad brands and I'm sick of them all now. I find some pads, I can't remember what brands, disintegrate into lumps while I'm wearing them.

I spent the whole entire morning researching reusable pads and I put in an order earlier. I'm browsing online for liners now. Reusable look so much more comfier.

Hi @SheepGoesBaa - are you still around? Did you ever get to the bottom of this? No pun intended!
