Back pain

Some months ago I developed an excruciating pain in my lower right back, about level with my hip but closer to the spine. When I’m up and about it is ok-ish but after a night spent in bed it is bloody agony.

I thought it was my mattress which was extremely hard (I like a hard mattress) so we shelled out the equivalent of a new kidney for an all singing all dancing mattress with good support and a memory foam top. I expected immediate relief. Didn’t happen and my back is so painful.

Dr is only interested in giving pain relief, which either constipates me or gives me stomach pain. Anything stronger I’m very sensitive to and it makes me very sick and hallucinate. Dr doesn’t seem to want to investigate any further. So I took myself off to a private physio - after quite a bit of time she can’t work out what it is or alleviate the problem. So I’ve stopped going because it’s costing me a lot of money. But still continuing her exercises.

When I circle my hips or tilt my pelvis slightly to the side it’s agony. Bigger movements aren’t too problematic. If I support my weight on arms of a chair and ‘drop’ my pelvis (this probably isn’t good) it is so painful BUT the pain relieves and is better for a while. I’m not overweight and I walk lots so reasonably fit.

Any ideas what this could be? I know it’s daft asking on the internet but my GP says back pain is common/take painkillers etc and I wondered if anyone had any experience of this?

Not sure what yours could be but I had the same problem after a car accident. Invest in a foam roller and a massage therapy ball so you can relieve some pain and then look into applied movement neurology. I got to the stage where I couldn't walk but whatever the guy did was a miracle and I walked out of the appointment by myself!

I’ve got/tried both of those things, but I’ll look into applied neurology movement, thank you.

You know when you rub a painful area to relieve the pain - it’s like I can’t even reach the area as it’s buried deep in my pelvis?

Yes I know exactly what you mean. It's so painful and there's no relief.

I can recommend a therapist if you're in Hertfordshire 😊

Is it worth trying an Osteopath? I have had awful back problems on and off for years after having my DC, and Dr recommended surgery but I found the most help and support came from an Osteopath. It can make it worse to begin with, but soon starts to help you to come out the other side.

I’m not in Herts but thank you!

I don’t know about an osteopath - I don’t want to send good money after bad, Ive spent a few hundred pounds now with the physio and don’t want to do the same again. But I might do if I have another bad night! (Last night I’d have sold my soul to the devil if the pain would have gone!)
