Amitriptyline for chronic pain

I've recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and the consultant has recommended low dose Amitriptyline for 6 months to help reset my sleep patterns and for pain relief. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their experiences of taking Amitriptyline?

Ah, well. That's different, then. You keep your wits about you!
I'm feeling very sorry for myself at the moment. No good reason. Can't decide whether to sleep it off, eat chocolate or get busy with something!

I'm hooked on watching parliamentary debates at the mo pickle! Very distracting...

I hope you feel a bit brighter tomorrow, I'm sorry you're feeling pants today

I take it for tension headaches (10mgs). It works and I have no side effects apart from sleeping better .

Unfortunately, I went Batshit mental on it and didn't sleep for days after just one tablet - hallucinating by 10pm on the 4th night, disoriented by day - everything was too loud, too bright and too fast.

It took actually treating my condition properly for me to sleep well, rather than attempting to sedate me/assume it's all in my mind.

But it works for other people.

@mononokeswolf my doctor did warn me it might take a few weeks to start working. but after a few days, I started to notice a difference

I've missed a call from the surgery, I presume they want to increase my thyroid meds. But they didn't leave a message and there's no one there now. Sigh.

Jeeze Mitzi that sounds horrific. I'm feeling better off it, I slept well last night and am more or less back to my now-normal.

There's no magical panacea that will take me back to my former fit, energetic self and as long as I keep mentally adjusted to how I am now then life is ok to good. The process of getting diagnosed, being taken seriously (mostly) and trying out the amitriptyline has actually helped me make this mental shift to acceptance and making the best of each day as I am able.
