Any ideas what this might have been?

Had a very strange and quite scary thing happen today, and wonder if anybody might be able to explain it?

Woke up with a slight headache but took two aspirin and felt fine.

Went out, did some shopping and had lunch - all fine.

However, about half an hour after eating lunch I suddenly got the most excruciating stomach cramps and began to feel boiling hot. Within moments, I had sweated so much that my clothes and hair were quite literally shopping wet. I went to the toilet but nothing happened, and I wasn't sick although I really thought I needed to be.

The pain and sweating lasted for about 40 minutes all told, and then I equally suddenly felt fine again.

Doctor Google hasn't really come up with any ideas. I'm inclined to think maybe some sort of allergic reaction perhaps? It was very odd, and quite alarming.

I reckon it's a bug. I had exactly the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I was at work, and it was agonising for half an hour. Then I felt okay.

DS2, however, woke up throwing up the following night, and his friend was sick the day before...

Thank you. My pain was much lower down than that, but it does seem pretty clear that something in the meal didn't like me much! :)

I have IBS and when I'm having a bad episode it makes me go really hot and sweaty it's awful. Usually with really bad pain. Sometimes I have to strip all my clothes off (at home obviously!)

That's interesting, Happy - and is exactly how I felt! No sickness or diarrhoea though.

I’ve had this before also sounds quite similar has happened about two or three times I think it was the intense pain that made me sweaty and feel like I was going to be sick or have an upset stomach. I think it was a bowel cramp or maybe pain from ovary eg if have a cyst ? It never happened often enough or long enough to do anything about it

Might be worth making a note of what you had eaten that day and your symptoms so you can track it in case it happens again.
A doctor would probably ask you for those details. I hope you don't get it again!

Will do!

Was it in the right place for a kidney stone as that’s excruciating apparently ( I’m a retired nurse) and if it was a teeny tiny bit of grit you wouldn’t actually see it coming out unless you were peeing into filter paper .

Thanks. Just looked at kidney stone symptoms and I think maybe not, as no pain when urinating.

Thanks, everyone. Hopefully it was just a one-off allergy thing. If it happens again, I'll see the doctor.
