Pins and needles in hands and feet?

I keep getting pins and needles in my hands mainly but feet too, i actually wake up with it every morning, what is this all about?

I am on betablockers to control severe migraine (numbness down left side, unable to talk, and slur badly) i don't think this is related though, i hate going the docs, i did go about this not long ago though and he said carpel tunnel syndrome (if thats how you spell it) but how would that affect the feet? i thought that only affected hands?!

The thing i am most worried about is that i was investigated for a narrowed carotid artery (a ultrasound showed a 50/60% narrowing) but got the all clear by a angiogram, i was supposed to go for a heart scan to check all the arteries around the heart but didn't go as was too scared.

TIA for any help/advice.

Ummm, I don't know, but if you get it in your arms/wrists/hands I don't see why not.

pucca · 05/08/2007 23:22

I dunno either, thanks for replying though TC

Well I haven't helped but hope you get an answer soon. I have carpel tunnel at the mo and get woken by it every morning, it's a drag. I'm thinking of going to have acupuncture, maybe that would help you?

pucca · 05/08/2007 23:34

TC...How would you describe CTS? is it both hands? all fingers? worse when just woken in the morning?

Course you are helping

Well this time round it's worse in one hand but last time it was in both.

It's my whole hand. It feels locked and hard and 10 times more intense than just tingly pins and needles but it ebbs away to pins and needles then goes. One hand is just a bit tingly the other is locked up with it if that makes sense.

Always there each morning.

Last time I had a steroid injection in my wrists and that really helped.
I know 2 people who've had operations to stop it.

Yours sounds much worse than mine, mone is just numbness, and pins and needles.

Thanks for explaining, not sure what it is that i have, will go doc again i think.

Mmmmm, well hope it gets sorted. I do think that acupuncture might help you though???

pucca · 05/08/2007 23:44

Ooh i don't know, lol, freaks me out thinking of acupuncture! don't know why as i am not scared of needles.

Are you stressed pins and needles in extremeties is a symptom of hyperventilation and this can be very subtle and not obvious. The fact it is in all limbs does not sound neurological nor cts.
Does it come and go?

pucca · 05/08/2007 23:47

Frapachino...Yes it does come and go, i suppose i am stressed at mo as about to move house, but had this about 10 months or so now, dunno weird! sometimes i get it just random throughout the day but i always wake up with it. I also get like electric shocks in my palms of my hands and feet.

very odd

OP posts:

Infact the electric shock things, they don't happen as often but make me grab whatever hand or foot it is and i feel like screaming, it hurts that much.

You need medical assessment just to rule out nerve damage (from a variety of causes) but from what you say my guess is totally benign hyperventilation syndrome! Are you diabetic?

pucca · 06/08/2007 07:12

No not diabetic.

Please don't worry about bothering your GP. I had unexplained symptoms two years ago and despite what my profession is did nothing for some months except worry myself into such a state I was convinced I had parkinson's. Anxiety causes worsening of existing problems and can even trigger new ones. Please don't worry yourself sick like I did, I couldn't think straight, couldn't relax at all. GPs should refer you on to an expert if they're unsure. Meanwhile try something like relaxation classes or yoga if you do feel stressed out and try to talk to people around you.
