I have been referred to the breast screening clinic by my GP. Can anyone tell me what i can expect to happen on the day? Starting to feel a little anxious, dont really have anyone irl i could ask without them worrying.

Are you referred coz you have a lump?
there are a lot of old MN threads you could hunt for, describe various experiences.
They will do a mammogram which some folk find uncomfy.
Turns out almost no one has anything bad.

They will do a mammogram, where you stand (or sit on high stool) at a machine and a plate goes under your breast then another on top, then they take a pic.
Some find this uncomfortable, I do, so I take painkillers before I go. Its very quick though.
Then you may have a doctor feel your breasts (slighty cringy) , and also an ultrasound where they just pass the handheld ultrasound thing over the breast (painless). You lie down for that.
The staff are lovely and you will feel very supported and they will tell you what to expect at each step. There will be lots of other women there all feeling like you do.
In some places you take your top clothes off and they give you a short cloak/gown to put on at the start. Best of luck with it.

Thank you both for your replies, very helpful. Trying to not start googling as one search will lead to another and you are right it is probably nothing. I originally went to see my GP for breast pain, been there for a while now and it is not getting better, waking me up in the middle of the night etc, GP thought she could feel a lump in the same breast so has sent a referral off. She did not seem too concerned so Im taking following her lead.

@Seaweed42 is quite right. I have spent more time with my boobs being poked at than enough and am well practised at the routine.
Locally our hospital send you for the lot in one day.

You will probably see a consultant who will want to have a poke to cross check anything the GP included on the referal. They've seen more boobs than you've had hot dinners, don't fret over it.
A mammogram - the great boob squash!
If the mammogram shows anything questionable they may also so a small biopsy - it doesn't hurt as they administer a local beforehand.
They may also do a set of blood tests.
After which they may bump you back to the consultant you saw first with preliminary results. Actual confirmed pathology results take a couple of weeks but they often have a firm idea of whats what.

From experience the staff are lovely and expect you to be anxious and worried. They are well used to and well trained at supporting people through the process.

GPs refer to a strict set of rules which err on the side of caution. If you want to message please do.
Please avoid Dr Google.
