Mirena panic

Hi all - have been reading old threads on and off all day and now am considering getting my Mirena coil removed.....I had mine fitted on Firday and this is my first day without paracetamol and I will be taking some tonight as it still hurts. I was under the impression the hormone is localised, although I have found out that a small amount can be found in breast milk - I still feed my dd 3 times a day as she is is allergic to cows milk,dd is 14 months old....When I feed her I get more cramps - must be that uterus is contracting.....Worried about the hormone, wouldn't have been so keen had I known I will be passing it on. Also my skin has been spotty round the chin since pregnant so not keen on provoking it further - It really was sold as the answer to my contraception concerns, but now I am really not so sure. It feels VERY sore and I have had to push up the threads twice a day as they keep poking out (I mentioned this at the time of fitting and the GP said he would rather they were cut long...can always have them cut shorter and they wind around the cervix) - Dont really want to take the pill anymore as i was getting side effects from it and I was forgetting to take it. Is 3 days too soon to tell any advice would be really welcome - for the last year dh and I have just been very careful and used a mix of the calender method, withdrawal, breastfeeding till my periods returned and dd (who is the best form of contraception going!)

i had mine removed after 3 weeks as i put on loads of weight, was bloated, had mood swings, and was spotting constantly.i actually went back to the fpc after a week as i was so unhappy with it but was told to give it 3 months.

i had a normal copper coild put in straight away after the mirena was removed and its been fine,no problems atall.

You should never go to your GP for a coil, you must always go to a FPC. It's like buying beef from a supermarket shelf or going to the local Butcher on your High Street. The local Butcher will know more. Gosh that sounded pretentious.
There are loads of different copper coils, but only one hormonal one, but mirena is really good. Loads of ladies though have the Mirena fitted whilst the are breast feeding and normally you shouldn't have your threads cut for six weeks.
I am suprised that your GP didn't tell you that the pain lasts for 3 or 4 days, although in your case if you have had a baby in the last year you should of been an easy fit there fore you shouldn't be in that much pain.
A FPC Doctor once told me, that area is the most sensitive part of your body, even more sensitive than your eyes, (thats why we orgasm) it will hurt, gosh I was embarrased when HE told me that .
Did your GP tell you no tampax for 6 weeks. Oh, and the same Doctor told me, that weight gain on contraception is never more than 7lb's the rest is self inflicted.

My previous post is a bit choppy, I hope you understood it Oystercatcher.

Floopowder - thank you - does make sense, all of it. I understand what you say about going to fpc, when I phoned them they seemed much more aware than gp nurse. This morning I do feel a little better, but still concerned about the breastfeeding bit......Re tampax, was told just for the first period - not 6 weeks (I will take your advice) - I also have a lump on my neck, not sure if it is the start of acne or a mozzy bite! please let it be the latter.....

i had the opposite experience.the fpc were pushing me to have the mirena coil as my last copper one had caused heavy periods and spotting in between(tbh i think it wasnt in right though),and then i was told that none of the problems i was having could possibly be caused by the mirena.so putting on 10lb in a week was totally normal then?.

it was my gp who actually listened to me and believed what i was saying.i lost 5lb in a week after having it removed, and lost the other 5 when i got my first period after having it removed.the pregnancy weight is now coming off slowly!
