Strange bitter taste and feeling in mouth for a week

Otherwise a normal healthy person, for the last week I’ve had a weird feeling in my mouth with a bitter taste which nothing I’ve tried has got rid of

Even strong flavours like my morning black coffee doesn’t taste right.

Has anyone had this and can give an suggestions of what I can do?

I had this when I had tonsillitis, no real sore throat to complain of. Saw my gp about something else and he looked in my mouth and said I had tonsillitis. Maybe you could have it too? Or tonsil stones

Il buy a test later on.

I thought I ovulated before having coil out but could have been mistaken

It was copper coil so no hormones

I got pregnant with a copper coil in. They aren't infallible!

Gwenhwyfar · 17/08/2019 13:26

Acid reflux?
And yes, drinking something on an empty stomach can make you feel nauseous.

AwdBovril · 17/08/2019 13:31

To be fair, a lot of things make me feel nauseous. Feeling too hungry, or having an excess of acidic food (especially fruit) without something carby, fatty, or protein to balance it, alcohol is the worst. Being nervous or excessively tired. Being ill, especially coughing or sneezing a lot.

The "light period" could have been a reaction to the coil removal - not an actual period at all. Irritation or something.

Pregnant!!!!!

Nat6999 · 17/08/2019 13:50

Pregnant, the metallic taste & going off coffee, the period that never got going are classic symptoms.

Firefly111 · 17/08/2019 14:02

Keep us posted if you do a test!

Woodlandwitch · 17/08/2019 14:02

Haha, I’m now looking into all the other things that could be signs.
I’m peeing all the time and far hungrier than I normally would be.

I still think it’s highly unlikely but I shall obviously report back once I take a test.

Knowing me itl just be some weird throat infection

I'm shamelessly posting to see if it's positive!

I had the same symptom when pregnant too!

MollyHuaCha · 17/08/2019 22:40

Hope you find out what it is.

Woodlandwitch · 18/08/2019 01:02

Thanks everyone

I didn’t get to the shops today (I’m currently without a car) but have told DH that most of Mumsnet suggest I take a test so should hopefully get to a supermarket tomorrow.

Weird taste still there

We went out for dinner with friends tonight and I found it hard to enjoy most of it.

It’s stanage as it’s not just a bitter taste but a weird feeling too.
Not sore or achy like a throat infection or ulcers, just mild discomfort

So the symptoms have got weirder today.
I keep smelling a faint foul smell occasionally.
There’s nothing there to cause it.

I mentioned it to DH for him to sniff me in case it’s me that smells but he says I am fresh as a daisy.

Unfortunate googling this diagnosed me with lots of scary things so I guess I should really see a doctor

Note - I still haven’t got to the shops yet

Strong sense of smell is also an early pregnancy symptom. I was early pregnant over Christmas time and my brother in law had bought me a box of Bath bombs from lush, I really love Bath bombs and wanted to keep them but I couldn't enter the bathroom when they were there! My dh wrapped them up in an air tight bag and put them in a kitchen drawer for me lol.

Mumoftoo19 · 18/08/2019 10:43

I'm going to say pregnant too. My first symptoms were funny taste in my mouth and my sense of smell was ridiculous! I could smell everything that normally I wouldn't notice.

Woodlandwitch · 18/08/2019 17:12

Pregnancy test a negative

I must just be generally under the weather

I picked up some multi vitamins to see if that helps

I'd still take another test in a week or so just in case. When I got pregnant I thought I'd had a really weird period, my tests were all negative and I waited a week and a half between tests and it turned out I was pregnant! If not and the taste is still bothering you then I'd go the doctors and mention it..

cherrytree63 · 18/08/2019 23:39

I'm suggesting reflux too.
