Fainting after indigestion?

I'm 37 and up until yesterday, I had never fainted before. Yesterday, I ate a few chips that my kids had left from their dinner and it gave me really bad indigestion. So I went and sat down at my desk at home and it was quite painful (this isn't that unusual for me though if I eat potatoes too quickly). So I sat down, took a sip of my drink (Coke - probably not ideal), next thing I knew, I hit my head on the wall, then I felt really confused.

We have one of those Hive cameras in our living room, so I checked that and I definitely fainted. I literally was only out for a second or two cos the bump on the wall brought me back round.

So I went to the doctors this morning as I was a bit concerned with never having fainted before and my doctor said that this can happen from indigestion and the main thing was that I recovered quickly after and I've never had issues with my blood pressure before. Does that sound right?

I couldn't find anything about fainting and indigestion on google. The doctor didn't even take my blood pressure or do any checks. I'm still feeling a bit lightheaded today, but I don't know if I'm imagining it or just a bit tired.

I might be way way off but could it be to do with Vagus nerve stimulation? I have an irregular heartbeat which is much worse when I have indigestion so I believe this is what causes mine. It makes me feel faint and dizzy too.

I'm surprised he didn't take your bp. I'd go back for second opinion.

I would say vaso vagal episode. I've been getting them for many years, usually just feels like I'm going to faint so if I can I lie down and it eventually passes. I've actually passed out a couple of times when out and not able to lie down, apparently the bp drops suddenly, usually there are triggers like indigestion, stress, hot room, occasionally no trigger. Did you have warning signs that you were going to pass out like feeling lightheaded? If it happens again I would see the GP for a full check up.

As far as I'm aware I don't have Vagus nerve stimulation, but I'll look into it. Not heard of it before.

I just ate some chips and they got stuck in my chest and I went really, really dizzy. So I sat down and had my head in my hands waiting for the food to move down, so I was feeling very lightheaded and dizzy. Next thing I knew was banging my head where I passed out. I didn't have any inkling that I would faint though, but then that's just because I've never fainted before. Luckily I was also sitting down so maybe I wouldn't felt the effects more if I was standing.

It does sound like vasovagal - the vagus nerve ( so called as it "wanders" down the body) runs from the base of the brain all the way down the body and is in very close proximity to the oesophagus and stomach, so the fact that chips got stuck may well have triggered it.
My late husband had a couple of these episodes when he vomited (sorry!)
