I'm currently in new Zealand and due to fly back to the UK on Sunday. I've suddenly been suffering from breathlessness while just standing around or even on first waking.

I'm not sure if it is anxiety of leaving. Google tells me it is heart failure. I'm only 40 so can't be this out of breath. I feel like I've just run. After walking up one flight of stairs I am panting.

But other then being just tired all the time, which I suffer with generally I've got no other pain/Symptoms.

DH is saying I should go to A&E. Any ideas?

If you can breathe ok don’t go to a and e. Call your doc in the morning.

But if you struggle to breathe go straight there

When did you fly to New Zealand? I'm more concerned about pulmonary embolism than heart failure. Get medical attention.

Betternotbebadnews · 15/08/2019 02:17

I've been in NZ for 4 weeks. Would an embolism show up so late?

Looks like possible up to 8 weeks after travel. Don't mess about with this, please take care of yourself

Get checked out you'll feel better, but don't stress it's most likely anxiety, once you've been seen it'll probably just disappear!

Happened to me not long ago, it lasted days, on waking, throughout the day, just felt like there wasn't enough air and I couldn't catch a deep enough breath. Booked a Dr's appointment, went got chest listened too etc, told it sermed fine went home and bam, back to normal. Anxiety can be a weird weird thing Flowers

Get it checked. Could be a few things. Anxiety most probable cause. Are you overweight? Could you have thyroid problems? Have you been diving AND flying? (Important to report to Dr if you have.)

Long haul travel and breathlessness, definately seek medical advice. May be nothing but not worth the risk.

My friend - 30yr old and very fit, ended up with pd. no other symptoms but breathlessness amd recent flight.

Betternotbebadnews · 15/08/2019 04:50

Doc has rushed me for bloods, Ecg and x-ray. Says he is concerned about heart failure.

He says i shouldn't be out of breath doing nothing or panting so heavily with minimal activity. But did mention I should lose some weight.

Results will be available tomorrow. Such a contrast in the healthcare system. Everything was done within 1.5 hrs.

I'm glad you've had medical attention.
FWIW to you and anybody reading this, difficulty breathing is always an emergency 999/equivalent. Xxx

justilou1 · 15/08/2019 06:40

Very pleased you are being sensible and not jumping on a plane while exhibiting these symptoms. New Zealand has great medical system and fine doctors. Please let us know what results are.

No news?

@Betternotbebadnews I know this post is very old but did you ever get to the bottom of this?
