What is going on with my bladder?

I’m a 29 year old mother of 3 and my youngest is 3. The past few months mainly st night when i get into bed I have the constant urge to wee. It’s so uncomfortable and I need like I need to get up every few mins for the tiniest bit to come out. My urethra feels tingly/sore sometimes too. It’s driving me insane, I can’t fall asleep easily because I feel like I need to wee desperately.

What could this be 😩

Sounds like a UTI - make an appointment with your GP / nurse and they'll check it out.

Probably UTI. GP should be able to tell easily with a quick urine dipstick.

Are you drinking caffeine before bed?

Rachelover40 · 10/08/2019 23:02

As others have said, almost certainly a urinary tract infection. Go to your GP! If you can't be seen quickly by GP, Lloyds Pharmacy (& probably Boots) test urine for infection and can recommend some treatment.

Good luck.

I had exactly this and for me it was a prolapse. My uterus pushing on my bladder. It can also be caused by kidney problems. Definitely get it checked. It's not always a UTI and there are many possible causes.

Omg. Iv just read about a prolapse and I actually think that might be it! My bits hurt a lot sometimes, and feel heavy & achey if that makes sense?! Like something is always there. I constantly have to check to see if my coil has fell out!

I had a bladder prolapse (had it repaired a few years ago). Certain types of exercise (eg running or anything that pushes down on the tummy muscles) can make it worse and make the urethra 'trigger happy' and twingy. It would be worth your while seeing a special physiotherapist who deals with pelvic floor issues. She will help you do the pelvic floor exercises, monitor your progress and advise about lifestyle things that may help significantly.
Avoid all heavy lifting, divide shopping between smaller bags. Use a trolley instead of a shopping basket etc.

Go to your GP and ask to see a gynecologist. They can check to see if you do have a prolapse. Please don't worry - about 50% of women who've given birth have a prolapse but a lot don't realise. I have a triple whammy - bladder, uterus and bowel prolapse. I'm fine and have needed no treatment. There are plenty of options if you need treatment. Some people solve it just with pelvic floor exercises.

Thank you! I’m going to get an appointment this week. It’s driving me insane, it’s a lot worse at night. I feel like I can’t empty my bladder proper when In bed. I have to get up 7-8-9 times before I fall asleep for the tiniest bit of wee but it feels like I’m going to wee myself!!

Good luck with the appointment. I had exactly the same thing! It was fine in the day but night times were hell. It was like some sort of torture. My gynaecologist said that when when I was lying down my uterus pushed on the bladder causing a pocket to form that I couldnt empty. In the day my orgens were in a different position so it didn't bother me. This was 5 years ago. The symptoms disappeared on their own (after about 4 months) without me doing anything so I never needed treatment! Then this year, after 5 years of bliss, the symptoms came back for a couple of months. I was gutted but again they disappeared on their own. The thing with prolapse is your organs do shift about so something might be a problem for a few months then it's not. Hope you get it resolved. You have my sympathy.

You should get a bit more sleep if you stand up after peeing, then do a few pelvic floor clenches and generally wriggle your hips. Then try to pee again - your bladder may release a bit more. And definitely ask for referral to women's physio.
