3 yr old hates LOUD NOISE

I seem to be worrying about everything at the moment but heres another bloomin thing.

My ds, 3.5 yrs, complains about any loudish noise. Says he doesn't like nursery because of the noise other kids make. If even a car starts up he slaps his hands over his ears. He has only recently started doing this or praps I didn't notice before...

Also his ears have always tended to be a bit sticky with wax. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Has he got a perforated ear drum? (uh?)

Can you- docs I mean- test this sort of thing?

apparently being vry sensitive to noise can be a sign of being a genius, keep popping up behind the kids and shouting but not a sausage

I'd pop to the GPs and have his ears checked. Even if there's nothing wrong, GP might have reasonable explanation for why this is, and help you handle it. My DD used to have problems with wax and GP suggested olive oil (the pure stuff you get from a pharmacy, not Tesco!) but I wouldn't do anything without seeing GP first to be honest.

My son had this problem from an early age. His particular bete noir was plates in restaurants. He was fearful that the waiter/waitress would drop the plates or glasses and they would smash. Eating out became very difficult as we has to find a restarant/pub with a carpet before he would settle down to eat. He didn't like to have young children near him, because he feared they would drop their plates.
He had other problems too, which led us having him tested for Aspergers. Super sensitive hearing is one symtom of Aspergers.
The good news is that he didn't have Aspergers syndrome and that he grew out of his plate phobia, though not until he was about 12.

LOL at calordan my dd is and has been doing this for the past 2 years - it did turn out she had an ear infection that was missed by docs on 2 occassions so i would get him checked out if i were you! she still is very sensitive to noise but is very clever so calordan might be onto something we have had a breakthrough recently and managed to sit through a film at the cinema though which was a complete no go 6 months ago!
