Wtf is this? (with pic - 'sporn' type warning)

I know I can't ask for medical opinions here but don't think this is serious enough to go to the GP atm but could do with second opinions.

Woke up this morning and felt like I had something in my belly button, felt and immediately felt this thing in photo below. I really feel like it's only just appeared but to be fair I don't often randomly feel my belly button, I wash with a shower puff etc so it may have been there for ages and I wouldn't have felt it, can't be sure. I'm a little overweight and have put on a small amount of weight recently but not massively so. It feels like it's made of normal skin, rather than being a big spot or something, and is quite firm but not hard.

Is it the inside of my belly button and I'm so chubby it's heading outwards or something else?

I don't have one of those 🤔 have you felt your stomach? Could it be a hernia behind it?

Herocomplex · 05/08/2019 06:37

I would get it checked. It’ll only take a minute and then you’ll know.

Breathlessness · 05/08/2019 06:41

Get it checked. I’m not medical but it looks like an umbilical hernia.

TwistyTop · 05/08/2019 06:43

Go to the doctor

RLOU30 · 05/08/2019 06:49

Get to a doctor x

SinkGirl · 05/08/2019 06:50

Definitely see your GP - my toddlers belly buttons were like this and I was told they were small umbilical hernias

ThinkWittyThoughts · 05/08/2019 06:58

I'm fat. Very fat. I don't have that. None of my fat friends do either.

Time for the GP.

TheBrockmans · 05/08/2019 07:01

It could be an umbilical hernia, my son's was bigger but they did operate (minor day surgery), but they don't always. We were told that hernias there don't usually strangulate. I would agree to get it checked with GP. If it becomes red and hot, or painful or you are vomiting then seek medical advice asap. Can you gently squash it back in even if it pops out again? Do not treat it like a boil.

Thanks everyone, ironically was trying not to jump straight to seeing GP as I'm normally over cautious but sounds like that's needed here. Can't feel anything amiss behind or in stomach but will get checked out asap.

No, I don't think it would push in, although I'm not pushing hard, feels like it's stuck to the skin like a big skin tag but will get it checked out

Quick update, went to the GP, less than 3 mins and it's definitely not a hernia apparently 👍, he struggled to find a word for what it is 😆 but said some sort of benign skin thing along the lines of a skin tag and not to worry unless it gets bigger or other symptoms. Thanks for all the advice.

Have you ever had your belly button pierced?
Sometimes the body over compensates (even years later) trying to 'heal' the hole and creates a harmless little growth, called a granuloma I think...
