Hi all
My hubby bent over yesterday and something went in his lower back. He has been in bed since in agony. Cant sit up, stand or get comfortable in any position. Had a telephone appt and doc has given him strong cocodamol. So far this isnt helping. Does this sound like a trapped nerve or slipped disc?

No idea but go to a chiropractor or osteopath, doctors are useless with backs

Could be either, I’ve had this happen a few times.

Alternate icing over the area (peas wrapped in a towel) for 20 minutes at a time then a hot water bottle over the area. As much as it hurts try to move around a little to loosen the spasm’ed muscles. Doctors will sometimes prescribe a 3 day course of diazepam to get you over the worst - the key is to get the pain under control enough to start moving. Good luck, it’s agony.

I did something similar once and the GP thought it was a pulled muscle, it just took time and rest to help it disappear.

Sounds what I do sometimes and mine is due to my sacroiliac joint.

I would echo a previous poster and see a chiropractor, swerve doctors they are useless.

I also find stretching my lower back out with yoga poses helps a lot. Gently while it is hurting but you can help avoid doing it again if you stretch it out more deeply when it feels better.

Moving around is better for it than sitting still.

Had something very similar a few years ago - had loads of physio that helped slightly, then a different type of physio sorted me out in the space of a phone call. Private, and a bit pricey, but if you’re interested, feel free to PM me and I’ll send you the link. Hope he feels better soon - back pain is hideous.

Thanks all
Have emailed a chiropractor who have said they dont do home visits so that will have to wait as he cant even get to the toilet at the moment. I'll push for stronger meds so he can rest at least. Thanks all for your advice.
