Pains in my legs

I keep getting pains in my legs. Not sharp pains, more like a dull ache.

Should I be worried at all ???

Have to admit that i probably do spend to much time sitting here on MN and did wonder if that was the cause.

Right now, my calfs are aching and if i try to sit with my legs under me it is quite painful and i have to move quickly.

Think it is def in the muscles not the joints.

Will try wriggling them around a bit more, thanks Twig

Sometimes if I am really tired I get leg pain and it can be really bad. I have heard that another cause is a lack of sodium/salt!

God forbid Twiglett

BH - Really i didn't know that. I eat salt in foods that already contain it but i don't add it to veg or anything like that as i steam them and i hate salt.

it could be many things but certainly inactivity and dehydration can be culprits. i think the salt thing is a bit of a fallacy... we probably get as much salt as we need in our diet.

Is it both legs?

Arabica · 19/09/2004 13:19

Nutcracker, I have had constant pain in both my legs since February, and wonder if yours is anything like mine. Not sharp pain, or a cramp, just a dull ache that never goes away whatever I do, but seems to be worse with weight-bearing exercise like walking. It's definitely worse in the calf region but sometimes feels like it's actually inside the bones at the front of my leg. My GP initially thought it was post-viral. Anyway have just had an MRI scan to see if it is related to earlier back problems. I haven't heard anything from hospital yet so I don't think they found anything--but have consulted chiropractor who thinks he can help with what he feels is probably an injury to the nerves affecting sensation in the legs. Hope this helps you discover what's wrong.

If it is just one leg check that your calves are still the same size, ie not swollen. Also make sure that they are not red and inflammed. These would be signs of a DVT (blood clot) which would be the most worrying cause. If none of these symptoms and persists I would go to GP just to get things checked out. Good luck!

Yeah it is both legs although my left hurts more than my right today.

If dehydration can be a cause then it is almost definatly that as I know I don't drink enough throughout the day.

Thanks I will now be buying loads of water and multivitamins whilst trying to wiggle my legs about

Arabica - Hope everything works out o.k with you.

Good luck sorting it out, nutcracker. It's definitely worth seeing your GP if it doesn't go quickly. Even if it's just to rule out something nastybecause I found worrying about it was almost worse than the pain itself. And if the GP's no good an osteopath/chiropractor may helpas pain in the legs can be related to back injuries even if you have no back pain.
