Stomach pains AFTER using toilet

I know that I really need to ask a doctor, and am booking an appointment but am looking at a 3-4 week wait, so i am wondering if anyone has experience similar and can offer advice on how to ease this problem.

For just over a week now I have been suffering from quite painful stomach cramps after passing a stool. The pain also travels to my back.

The pain lasts for a good hour after and get strong enough to make it hard to concentrate on work at times.

Occasionally passing wind seems to trigger it too.

Most Information I can find looks at pain before going toilet, I cannot find much for after.

Just as a background I did experience a week long period of bleeding when going to the toilet at the start of July, and had similar cramps then, however I needed to travel with work and intended to ring the doctor on my return but it stopped when I got back. The bleeding was not dangerously heavy, seemed similar to a heavy period (which I confused it for at first) with a few small clots. No pain around the anus just the stomach ache.

While I wait for an appointment can anyone offer insight or ideas to improve the pain?

Could this be something I am eating, would there be a likely suspect?

Must you really wait 3-4 weeks to be seen? Honestly I would be pushing for an emergency appt or cancellation given recent history of significant lower GI bleeding and ongoing pain associated with bowel movements. Mention any change in bowel habit too.

In the meantime I imagine the advice will be not to take aspirin, ibuprofen or any other NSAID for the pain (risk of bleeding) & to stick to e.g. paracetamol if you need painkillers and softeners rather than stimulant laxatives if you have any constipation.

(NB I am not an HCP and not qualified to advise medically - but I do have experience of bleeding and pain associated with diverticular disease prior to my resection).

Hope you can get this sorted soon.

I have diverticular disease and when I'm not having a flare up (when the pain is almost constant) I sometimes have pain after emptying my bowels.

Thank you both, my appointment has been booked in for the 9th August. If it gets worse I will try and get them to bring it forward, but I am really bad at pushing for things like that for myself.

I don't take ibuprofen or aspirin due to my asthma anyway, so at least no worries there.

Is it worth keeping a good/symptom diary in lead up to appointment?

Yes, keep a symptom diary - and I would suggest you consider mentioning to the GP's receptionist that you have "red flag" symptoms (the bleeding, though you don't need to share the details) and - if this is the case - that you would be able to attend an earlier appointment if there is a cancellation in the meantime.
