He's had it on and off for years, I think it's a slipped disk. Which specialist should he see though - osteopath, physiotherapist or chiropractor? I don't know the difference but I really want to get him some help...

get him for a scan before you do ANYTHING.. need to find out what the problem is first -- advice learnt the hard way!

He once saw a physio (I think) after a bad attack, who told him it was all about the jelly squirting out from between the disks and touching the spinal nerve (TMI??) She recommended exercises but it still flares up every 6 months or so...

An osteopath or chiropractor will probably be able to tell if there is a disc problem. They won't touch him if there is a serious problem but will refer him. What does the GP say?

Hello,

Are you me?

This sounds so familiar. My DH spent the whole of this weekend trying to do something, having to lie down, doing something, lying down... It has been a problem on and off for years.

In the past he saw a physio, who was helpful, but with this recent episode, she was utterly utterly useless "ooh, not quite sure what the problem is, so don't know what excercises to give you"

My key tips, for what is is worth, is for your DP to keep as active as he possibly can, and to take nurofen. It is anti-imflamatory, so takes the swelling around the disk down. My DH takes paracetamol as well if it gets really bad.

Good luck.

The GP referred him straight - like the same morning! - to the physio once when he could hardly move...
