GO TO CASUALTY.

But probably a virus.

cornsilk · 29/07/2007 20:12

It's best to get it checked out to be safe. My ds had a rash last week, GP said it was virus as had temperature. I hadn't even realised - thought it was just heat rash.

RubySlippers · 29/07/2007 20:12

check it out - my DS often gets a rash pre or post virus but it is worth getting it checked out
get her to make a quick call

cornsilk · 29/07/2007 20:12

Agree with SS go to A nad E.

WideWebWitch · 29/07/2007 20:13

I'd call NHS Direct

Filchymindedvixen · 29/07/2007 20:16

Has he had any other symptoms at all? For what it's worth, if it is bumpy, it is unlikely to be scary meningitis rash. (that is flat)
But certainly better to be safe than sorry.

My son had meningicoccal meningitis years ago and though he deteriorated frighteningly fast, it was obvious to me he was very ill so I ignored doc's advice (on telephone) and took him down to A&E..

j20baby · 29/07/2007 20:17

she's just called NHS direct and is waiting for a doctor to call her back.

OP posts:
j20baby · 29/07/2007 20:17

the rash is flat.

he's had achy legs for a few days which she put down to growing pains or a virus

3Ddonut · 29/07/2007 20:20

Don't wait for NHS direct to get back, they will only tell you to attend A & E time is of the essence here. I don't want to scare you ) Hope all is well.

pobletsmum · 29/07/2007 20:20

I'd skip NHS direct and go to A&E - that's what NHS Direct are likely to advise anyway because they can't risk having a child sit at home becoming seriously ill. Better to be safe than sorry.

If A&E definitely seems 'wrong' to the child's mother, then maybe call the Out of Hours GP service to at least talk to a Dr? (I find route to talking to a Dr is much quicker this way than via NHS direct).

I hope the rash goes away with no other symptoms.

pobletsmum · 29/07/2007 20:21

Ok just read your other posts - very important to go to A&E asap in my opinion.

Peachy · 29/07/2007 20:22

A&E no question, time and early intervention are life savers if it is meningitis.

Peachy · 29/07/2007 20:23

Achy legs are supposed to be key symptoms iirc

Filchymindedvixen · 29/07/2007 20:23

have a look on here www.meningitis.org/symptoms/symptoms

Anything else happened in last couple of days? Nasty cuts? Absesses?

Filchymindedvixen · 29/07/2007 20:24

rash and achey legs can be symptoms of sceptacaemia

3Ddonut · 29/07/2007 20:25

I hope hope hope that this child is on his way to A & E.

Filchymindedvixen · 29/07/2007 20:25

Hope all's well.

pobletsmum · 29/07/2007 20:27

j2obaby - please keep us updated...

j20baby · 29/07/2007 20:28

castille · 29/07/2007 20:29

My DD gets little patches of this rash quite often, caused in her case by scratching an itch too hard (she has very sensitive skin that reacts to anything). But it still panics me every time I see it.

Hope all is well.

Peachy · 29/07/2007 20:30

You're a good friend and she is lucky to have you.

Not sure about cross infection

overtherainbow · 29/07/2007 20:31

No it shouldn't affect you. Please get off the computer and help her get him to hospital - sorry to be harsh but you do not have time to waste if it is menigitis. Please update later though.

j20baby · 29/07/2007 20:31

ok, let you all know x

OP posts:
3Ddonut · 29/07/2007 20:32

I'm not sure... I think that if it's the nasty one (assuming it is meningtitis) you could be susceptible, is anyone else available to take them? Did you get vaccinated (are you under 30 as vaccines were rolled out to this age group) just tell her to get an ambulance if need be, this liitle one needs to get to the hospital NOW
