An adult relative staying with us, had what I suspect was a partial seizure yesterday ( I have no medical training but i think that is what the paramedics thought) We called an ambulance because at first we thought whatever was happening was related to other health condition ( RA and disc problems) and relative said they could not move. The episode worsened to shaking, but they were conscious all of the time. Struggled to speak. Episode lasted a good hour and the relative complained of overheating (was in the warm garden) so we put cold packs around neck. Recovery started at that point.,but rather confused and extremely distressed.Ambulance arrived after 3 hours during recovery. They stayed quite a while and thought it best if relative went to see specialist in home town, but offered to take relative to hospital.
It turns out that this sort of thing has happened several times before- since a head injury in childhood, but usually only affects a small area such as weakness in half a leg. Symptoms as a child called growing pains. Relative avoids warm baths and hot conditions to avoid these attacks. Relative knows when an attack is likely and avoids driving or work (craft) Relative did not want to go to hospital- had a very difficult experience when last admitted.Relatives DP is aware only of attacks of weakness. MS was suspected and ruled out.
I don’t know what to do for the best. Should we gently get Drel home (I’ll drive) to DP and encourage requesting a neurology appointment?
