Woke up with this on my thigh! It's about 3 cm diameter, so quite large :o And also itchy, sore and slightly swollen. I have not seen any bugs. I do have some fleas in the house unfortunately, from slacking with flea treatment on my cat. But those bites look totally different.

I'm freaking out a bit. No idea if it's relevant, but most of the morning I had difficulty catching my breath properly - yawning non stop to get more air in. Was feeling woozy too. I do feel better now (after 5 hours of it) That might have just been anxiety which I do have though, and it hadn't occurred to me it might be linked.

Now I'm freaking out though!

If you're worried, why not pop to your local pharmacy (if you have one) and show it to the pharmacist? Plus they can give you Piriton or similar if you are having an allergic reaction to a bite.

Looks similar to a bite I had recently which I think was from a horse fly.

It looks like a horse fly bite. I’d to to the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist to have a look at it. I don’t know where you are OP but where I am the pharmacist can prescribe for minor ailments.

I think you might be overreacting a tad with that bite and the breathlessness

Antihistamines to keep the reaction/swelling down. I recently have had great success with rubbing a dry bar of soap over bites....we were out at a canal last week and I got a bit eaten, and that really seemed to kill that infernal itch.

Also got a really nasty bite on my finger and that has just started to go down after days, it's been really tight and swollen but hasn't spread past the first knuckle, I have been dangling that in a hot salt water bath which has helped with the throbbing!

That was a giant black mozzie thing, as I unconsciously went to itch my finger and squashed it with my thumb as I thought it was just an itch and it must have been the actual bite! Yicky!

Try a hot compress on your leg maybe?

Thanks! It happened in the night, so no clue why a horsefly would be in my bed (I live in a town). :O

Yeah I know I'm probably overreacting, I just googled too much, haha

I'll take an allergy pill and see if it stops itching so much. Thanks!

Don't know how bugs get in or bite/sting without us noticing sometimes lol

Hope the antihistamine helps you ditch the itch!
A cool shower also sooth it and germolene or savalon is a God send!

If it continues and gets really irritating you can get your pharmacist to look and maybe offer something Flowers

It's pretty okay now! Got some aloe vera gel that soothes it :)

Looks like a horse fly bite. Pretty big incision site.

It could have been in your bed linen or clothes hung out to dry on the washing line.

They are nasty feckers. When I am bitten, I swell up horribly and they itch forever.

Had to have my wedding and engagement rings cut off once because of a horse fly bite caused so much swelling.

I once got so irritated that I pressed a scalding hot teaspoon onto a bit once and that gave me relief. Ridiculous but I was getting desperate!

Hattifnatt88 · 15/07/2019 17:09

I don't know, I live in a city, haha! Why would a horse fly be here, here's just dogs, cats, mice and birds. Now it's settled down a bit, I can see there are 2 punctures, which makes me think it might have been a spider? I don't hang bedding outside because I'm scared of spiders crawling in it! How ironic
