Recurring thrush

Hi everyone,

I have been struggling with thrush since Feb 2018 shortly after losing my virginity, after that, I had thrush from Feb - June 2018. I then went on a 6-month course of fluconazole and the thrush stayed away till June 2019. However, last month it returned really badly and took ages to clear up, I am really scared that my old problem has returned. I do everything advised - probiotics, cotton underwear, no soaps, etc. I am now trying to do the candida diet but due to work commitments won't be able to do it for much longer. I am only 21 and feel like this is going to control my life, its already causing strain on my relationship and social life. I know I'm not a mum but I thought you ladies may be able to help. I am DESPERATE!

Thank you

Oh yes, it's fine now, since mid twenties.

I do find I have to be careful, not using strong soaps etc. I still use the Vagisil quite a bit. But the issues I had before have not returned.

I hope you find the solution that works for you.

I am from the UK. I had follow up appointments with the doctor every few months to assess how I was getting on with the fluconazole, with the view to reducing the dosage and slowly weening me off once the symptoms had subsided.

MGJ818 · 15/09/2019 13:14

@MarmotMorning Happy to hear that and glad you sorted it, do you think it was the vagisil that resolved it or just time?

@Lauren1234567 Okay, how long had they put you on it? Longer than the usual 6 months?

Thanks for all the help

Hi love. I had thrush every month aged 19-26. It’s utterly miserable isn’t it. I did all you’ve done, I found the only thing to really help was Kolorex horopito extract (HIGHLY recommend) canesten soft gel pessaries every month, and OptiBac probiotics for women. No products/chemicals etc down there of course, but you know that. I think along with that I also ‘grew out of it’/my hormones altered as I had 2 babies and my skin has cleared up too in the last year or so, so perhaps a connection there. Probably not the answer you want but definitely recommend trying the products above.

Given I suffered for 7 years, I tried everything possible, saw various doctors (none of whom were very interested), and these were the things that acually seemed to help prevent thrush rather than just treat it. Try and nip it in the bud now as I ended up developing vulvodynia (a nerve condition) from the constant irritation.

MarmotMorning · 15/09/2019 13:54

I don't know exactly why it stopped but it was definitely soon after starting the vagisil. I think it helped bring everything back in balance and meant I finally found a 'soap' that didn't irritate me.

However I know that's anecdotal and I'm reluctant give vagisil all the credit!

@BendydickCuminsnatch where did you by the Kolorex horopito extract and what exactly is it? I feel like I've tried everything with no luck! It's been 2 years already I can't imagine suffering another 5 like this :( happy yours is sorted now though and sorry to hear about the vulvodynia

Horopito is an anti fungal herb. Bought from amazon or Holland and Barret

@BendydickCuminsnatch thanks

Initially it was 6 months, followed by an appointment to assess how I was getting on and if they could reduce my dosage. I had one or 2 flare ups were I was a little bit uncomfortable (nothing like the unbearable level I had thrush previously) but because of the flare ups they said I should continue to take it for another 3 months, then assess me again to see if the dosage could be reduced.

You may find the remedies that the other lovely ladies recommend in this forum work for you (which would be awesome!!) some remedies work for some, some don’t. When I was at my worst I tried almost everything that was recommended in forums, on YouTube and every other corner of the internet... I went through my amazon shopping and looked through my cupboards at what I tried that didn’t work for me, I must have spent hundreds! Not to say it was a complete waste, hopefully it improved my health despite not getting rid of my thrush;

Multi-gyn flora plus
Pau d’Arco tea
Dim plus
Grapefruit extract
Coconut oil
Wormwood
Garlic
OptiBac Saccharomyces Boulardii - 5 Billion
Apple cider vinegar
Water kefir
Omega 3
Milk thistle
Ashwagandha
Selenium
Aloe Vera
Ginger
Iron
Oregano
Bio-Kult Candéa
Vitanica yeast arrest
Candida Cleanse & Yeast Support
yeast raiders
Switching to mooncup

Hopefully you’ll find one of the recommendations works, if not don’t be disheartened. If that is the case, keep pushing your doctor for a referral to a doctor that is a specialist in treating Candida infections xx

@Lauren1234567 hahaha I'm the same I've tried 95% of those but will have a look at the few I haven't. Thanks a lot.
