Does DH need medical attention, Africa?

DH is one of those stoic, won't even take a paracetamol for a headache types.
We're on holiday in West Africa.

Srarted yesterday evening. He couldn't manage dinner, or leaving the room. Still feels rotten this morning.

Symptoms are headache, bloating, lethargy, going hot then cold, he's burping a lot, no D&V.

If we were home I'd be leaving him in bed to sleep but out here I'm worried. We're taking anti malarials but I think it's too soon for that? We have been bitten a lot. We've been very careful with food and drink.

2 days left here in the capital before we head somewhere more remote, does he need a doctor? Don't want to overreact but I'm nervous being in the tropics Sad

A lesson in why you need insurance and a credit card! They have good hospitals in most countries if you can pay.

Thanks for keeping me company Smile

It was about £250, not too bad for about 6 hours treatment. Will get most of it back from insurers

Could have been much worse! Hopefully the rest of your trip is much better x

Thank goodness. I had that and it was dreadful!

areukiddingme · 06/07/2019 02:06

first things first, get off mumsnet, and call your Emergancy travel insurance contact number

EBearhug · 06/07/2019 02:15

Or read the thread to see she already did that...

Hope he's feeling better today and you enjoy the rest of your travels.

Happy update for you now we've got home, DH is fully recovered and finished with all his tablets. He soon perked up and I didn't get it (was pretty much covering him with hand sanitiser regularly) and most importantly safari was incredible Grin
