I have a fractured lower tooth. It is extremely sensitive and hurts to eat etc. I have severe health anxiety and the pain isn’t localised to the tooth It is right down into my jaw Is this normal?

. At the dentist to get it sorted tomorrow but has anyone any miracle pain relief ideas?

Yes it’s normal for toothache to radiate to jaw, also can radiate upper to lower or lower to upper.
No miracle pain relief ideas but good that you’re at the dentist tomorrow.

Ibuprofen & co-codamol can be taken together, no more than 8 co-codamol in 24 hours & 2400mg of ibuprofen every 24 hours. Rinse your mouth with hot salt water, hot water bottle or warm towel on your face, sleep propped up if you can.

Thank you. It’s not agonising all the time thankfully, worse when I eat or drink

So I had the tooth filled at the dentist and she couldn’t see any sign of an abscess. It’s still hurts though!! She said that the cavity wasn’t as deep as she thought it might be. X-ray showed no abscess either. Could this be the nerve? The pain goes from the tooth and directly underneath it so that it feel like my jaw hurts although that could be referred pain from the gum. Any ideas? Should I go back to the dentist again?

Could there be a crack?

Grumblina · 10/07/2019 22:38

Yes I think they think that’s what it is but she put glue hoping it would sink down Into the fracture below the filling

It could be that the nerve is dying, this is very painful (you feel in in half of your jaw)and would mean that eventually you would need it root filled.

IME cracks and fractures can cause a lot of strange, difficult to diagnose pain and be very difficult to treat.
Options include crown, root filling and crown or extraction.
Even if the tooth is crowned or root filled and crowned it may need eventual extraction depending on the extent and direction of the fracture. It’s also impossible to know as a dentist what the fracture is doing so it’s really all luck.
When did you have the filling. It’s normal to allow a period of time (up to 6 weeks) for things to gradually settle but if it’s getting worse not better obviously go back to the dentist. Just don’t expect them to do magic!
