Scattered white matter on brain MRI

Had basic results of brain MRI and its fine apart from scattered white matter. The A&E doctor said that's not treatable and she doesn't know what it means, maybe mini-stroke. It's going back to GP.

I have lots of MS type symptoms and have had for two years came on very suddenly. Just wondered if anyone had had this or knows what it means and whether it causes poor balance, cognitive difficulties etc. Thanks. I seem to just be being signed off though wondering if worth getting GP to refer back to neurology though if nothing they can do maybe pointless.

I had that ( white lesions) and they said it could be a mini stroke in the past or I could have been born with it . I got tested for MS . Are they not testing you for that ? If a possible TIA in past then they should be looking at you to minimise risks - cholesterol, blood pressure etc . Yes definitely go back to your GP . Try not to worry too much .

Thanks very much Penguin The report apparently says they don't think its MS though will query that as MS can show on spine and symptoms match it exactly. Had normal cholesterol and blood pressure about 109/70. Did have mini stroke like symptoms in May where I couldn't move or talk for 5 minutes or so and fingertips have been numb every since and arms going numb since but had balance symptoms and brain fog for couple of years so not sure. Unless I had other mini strokes and didn't realise but nothing super obvious. Will hopefully get referred back to neurologist.

Google hemiplegic migraines. This was what my neurologist decided it was .You will find it interesting . Are you in 40s/50s by any chance?

Thanks - I'm mid 40s, not getting much in the way of headaches (and all can be explained by dehydration, not sleeping properly, no more than ever had and mild, no nausea) so doctor said not migraine and her guess is will have been having small strokes but symptoms match MS so much more closely. The balance is 24/7 and constantly very badly off for 2 years, came on very suddenly.
Hopefully can get to see neurologist. I failed lots of neurology tests A&E did, tried to persuade them to pass me but they said they were really bad fails. Blush

Neurology problems are some of the most difficult to diagnose ( and sometimes never are) but it seems you have to plug away at the NHS. Perhaps they will do an MS test to set your mind at rest . Best of luck !
