Urticaria

I’ve had this for nearly a year and am in the maximum dose of fexofenadine and have just started montelukast. I don’t know what is driving this but wonder if anyone has any experience of chronic urticaria and managing it? I’ve seen an immunologist privately and she was great; she started me in the larger dose of fexofenadine and if that wasn’t successful she suggested montelukast. Unfortunately she is retiring now but I have recently (finally) had my NHS consultation, which was all of 10 minutes long and a little frustrating. Are there any support groups? Thanks.

I’m resurrecting this old thread to see if anyone got treatment?
I’ve got chronic spontaneous urticaria that started out of nowhere two years ago. The hives are awful when they flare up. Montelukast made them worse. I’ve had batches of steroids when the flare ups are bad.
I’m now on 4xfexofenafine a day but have been referred for this injection omalizumab but am keen to find out more. A search on mn found this thread so has anyone tried it ?

Yes, I’ve been on it for some time now and it’s been life changing

Have there been any side effects ?

I get a v v mild headache sometimes for a bit after the injection, that’s it
the side effect are so little that I’ve grabbed the injections off the delivery guy before, done them and gone straight back to work

honestly I can’t put into words how much it changed my life. I can wear coats! I can have a hot bath, I can exercise

I did a spin class, had a hot shower and had the feeling I had forgotten something and then realised it was because I wasn’t itchy, hot, covered in hives etc

@YesQueen were you talking antihistamines before ? If so are you still taking them ?

Yes, as technically Xolair is an add on
I was on 4 a day though (Zyrtec) and now take just 1
