kilaris pilaris (aka chicken skin) itchy, scratched and bleeding

Hi

My daughter has kilaris pilaris on her upper arms and face.

GP has confirmed it when we went for something else.

It has got a lot worse recently, she says it itches, she scratches and it bleeds. It leaves scabs.

GP told us to use moisturiser, which we have done to no avail.

Both arms look awful now and last night she scratched her face until it was bright red and this morning, she has about 12 scabs on one side of her face.

Anyone know of any remedies or should I take her back to the GP?

Thank you

I use this on my son, it's not cheap but you don't need to use it daily.

@sallud

Thank you!

Did it work on your son?

DO you think it's OK to use on the face?

xx

i get kerastosis pilaris on my legs and arms.
I dont think there is actually much you can do, but adjusting your diet, avoiding gluten can help, or going gluten free. Also SLS in shower gel makes mine worse, but soap is fine, also exfoliating.

Also get plenty of sun on it. I have never found moisturising it to be much help, as the pores are already clogged with keratin. No oils on top of that is going to do anything.

I have found at times, that hair removal cream does dissolve top layer of keratin, but that can be irritating to the skin if done too often

Oops, sorry - I've just read the waffle about it and it is suitable for the face.

I'll get some today xx

I used to have this until I incorporated more essential fatty acids in my diet. In my case, I sprinkle some ground flaxseed on my breakfast and eat nuts.

Once I did this, my lifelong itchy back also stopped itching.

oh yeah, omega 3 supplements do help alongside the gluten free thing

boble1 · 30/06/2019 14:23

Oooo, thank you, Ill try some omega 3 too.

I have just bought the cream and luckily it's half price at the moment!

I recommend the ameliorate cream too. My daughter gets this and it helps massively.

Thank you @QueenMabby xx

I was going to recommend Ameliorate too. I just bought some yesterday at SpaceNK and paid full price though! Confused

boble1 · 30/06/2019 19:42

@Cataline

Oh no!

I popped into Boots and it was full price on the label until I got to the tills and it came up half price. Glad because it is rather expensive! I really hope it works xx
