Any experience of narrowed heart valves in the elderly?

Just that really, except COPD is thrown into the mix too.
My DM, by the way, who got given the results of a heart echogram today after being taken by ambulance into hospital due to a raised heart rate. (And released later that evening.)
I'm wondering whether she would be a candidate for surgery, and how safe it would be for her.

A member of my family had valve replacement surgery in his 80s and is still with us and in good spirits at 96.

Has surgery been recommended?

Yes, Lark, either In a month's time or sixth months depending on the person who reviewed her echogram.
Did your family member have a stent or a valve replacement? What type of anaesthesia did they have,

He had a replacement under GA. It was over a decade ago though. It made a huge difference to his quality of life at the time, and I am pretty sure he wouldn’t be here now had he not gone ahead with it.

Apart from some congenital heart defects, people who undergo heart surgery are generally elderly with other illnesses to cope with.
Recovery is usually good, though it can take months to be back up to full energy and capacity.
