verrucae

dd has a couple of verrucae on her foot. Took her to the docs yesterday and he said not a problem, the body wil eventually build up immunity and they'll go but it might take up to a year or two. Is this sensible? WOn't she just spread them at swimming lessons? He said the treatments are not nice and involve a lot of applying lotions and filing feet. Does anyone have any advice, please?

What age is she? If she is very young maybe that's why GP doesn't feel the need to treat them. My DD frequently gets them and they do cause her a bit of discomfort so I do treat them. I use the stuff that only needs one application and freezes them. Drawback is that it is evil stuff and so you have to take a lot of care when applying it. Also you can only treat one at a time with it (not sure why - I just obey the instructions on the box). My GP has said don't worry about spreading them at swimming. He reckons they are quite difficult to spread, but then why does dd seem to always pick them up

I'm with the doctor. As long as it's not causing her too much pain.

My ds has one on his foot. We put nasty cream on for a while but it made it much more painful. We were told they could freeze it off but that sounds really bad too.

The foot clinic people said 'put duck tape on it'. They said it seems to work and it keeps others from catching it.

My ds has had his for a couple of months now and it seems to be going. No-one else has caught it.

I'm with the doc - if they're not painful then leave them - they do go away by themselves. I had one frozen and it was agony and came back after two weeks anyway.

[proffers round of applause for use of plural though]

Yes. Plural noted with respect.

am feeling very smiley at the praise for verrucae. Dh says all the time that I fuss too much and that it doesn't really matter... but it does - even though I don't always get it right!

Will leave well alone, she's only 5 and I feel less is more with drugs of any sort really (excepting alcohol, of course, where more can be better )

i have had my verrucae for 21 years!
they're not shifting... just spreading.

but they don't seem to have spread to dd's or dh.

avoca used as stated is very affective on warts and verrucae, also duck tape works well!!! a few of my friends have done the duck tape on there verrucae and they have shifted. I don't think that leaving them is advisable on children as it does nothing for self confidence and if they swim they can be passed to other children.
