Groin and lower back pain on right side - mirena coil?

Hi lovelies,

I have been experiencing a very tight groin and lower back (top of my bum) on the right hand side for around 3 months. I am bloated and when I cycle on a stationary bike it feels a bit like a crushing pain. I've been having physio and have stopped all training which aggravates it (mostly hip flexion movements) however the pain still remains. The physio keeps changing what they think the problem is.

I've started to think maybe it's to do with the mirena coil - I'm on my third one after 11 years & it's been in for 8 months. I felt it move when I was jogging and had a sharp pain but haven't had sharp pains since.

It's now to the point I can't do a quard stretch, stand on my right leg and struggle to do up my right shoe.

Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks!

Jade

It could be coil and you may need an ultrasound to see it is still in place.
Another issue, and I speak from experience is an irritated S I joint. I presented to my GP with very bad right groin pain and symptoms you describe. He did bloods, x ray and ultrasound, I was finding it hard to walk and had pain from vagina to anus, turns out it was my piriformis muscle. Ultrasound of ovaries, groin, hernia were all clear, exam showed when he palpated my back the pain radiated to my groin, HTH

I think it sounds like a hip labral tear which can be from trauma but also from overuse and is quite common. Only a hip arthogram MRI can diagnose it though.

Thank you both! I’ve been having physio for a tear but have seen little improvement. Hoping to get to the bottom of it at GP but am sure it will take many referrals! Xxx
