DS has 'maybe' had Measles - what to do about vaccination?

I'm in such a quandary... DS has just got to 13 months so is 'due' MMR. I'm not convinced about the safety of it. Also I think he might have had Measles. Doctor said it definitely wasn't measles but 'just a virus' and that the rash was eczema. Then I got ill, caught it off him - rash all over face, and developed encephalitis (classic complication of Measles), then two kids at his nursery went off with the Measles (confirmed by blood test). So I don't know whether to:-
A) take him for MMR (but am really not sure about this)
B) take him for single Mumps vaccine and assume that he has had Measles
C) take him for blood test (traumatic procedure for such a little one) to confirm he has had Measles, and then give Mumps as single, and Measles as single if he doesn't have antibodies
or... what????

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

My DS is in the same boat!
had "measles" last week - he has been swabbed and we are waiting for the results
I have spoken to the GP who has told me if DS is well on the day of his MMR he can have it

Wasn't aware you needed a blood test for measles - they did a saliva swab on DS which was not upsetting

I don't think a blood test would be traumatic tbh, and it would give you an answer

it sounds to me that even if he hadn't had suspected measles you would not have had the MMR anyway, so maybe go for singles?

both mine had the MMR, were fine, it is a personal choice

you need gess, she is v knowledgeable on vaccines

you just need a saliva test for measles...very simple..not traumatic
my doctor refused to do it saying ds had a virus with rash
went to A&E..test was done...days later measles confirmed

RubySlippers - they can do the saliva swab when they have measles, but not after they're better (it was a few months ago that my DS had this rash-fever-virus thingy!). I wish my GP had done saliva swab at the time, then I wouldn't be so confused, but she was so insistent that he didn't have measles.

All my family are doctors/medics (we've got 3 GPs, 2 psychicatrists, 2 paediatric nurses and a surgeon...), and the GPs and paediatric nurses said the blood test would be a 'nightmare'...

Am not sure about MMR. My Dad (GP, now retired) referred one of the kids who was in Dr Wakefield's study on MMR & autism, and he thinks there was definitely a link in that case. I'm sure it's a one in a million risk - but I'd be very frightened because I've got the risk in my head now...

My ds got german measles so in the end I didn't bother giving him is last shot of MMR. I couldn't see the point of him having it really as he had severe gm. Apparently the MMR doesn't stop them from having MMR!

Also, because of all the medics in the family, I tend to get lots of conflicting advice!
Am about to pop off to hospital (just follow up appointment with consultant about my encephalitis...) Will come back in an hour or so...

hope your check up went ok
FWIW my DS has had a few blood tests in his time (when he was much younger)
Getting a canular in wasn't fun but they are very quick at the hospital and i think it is worse in some ways for the parent who has to watch it all

Can't help you with your anxieties other than to say they are usual

bump for gess
