Does anybody get scared when they get uncontrollable runs

Yes me and I know it's entirely ridiculous but that doesn't stop me feeling that way. I have emetophobia so I can only assume that my fear of diarreah is based on "this could be a bug so therefore I could throw up next" so it's more what the diarreah could potentially represent if that makes sense. Yes I'm aware I'm a lunatic lol.

@Nogodsnomasters I’m the same!!! Also terrified of dizziness for the same reason. Have you found any effective coping strategies?

@Relaxing2 I assume you’ve posted because you’re not feeling good? Sending Flowers ... are you doing okay this evening?

Nogodsnomasters · 18/06/2019 07:45

theanswerisinabooksomewhere I've never met anyone else who's afraid of diarreah so in a weird way I'm glad op posted this thread! I've heard of plenty of emetophobes but never one who's afraid of the other end too lol. I really don't have any coping mechanisms other than my usual anxiety attack type tricks of deep breathing, trying to focus on other things, stay away from Google etc.

@Nogodsnomasters love a good emetophobes’ bonding moment!!!!! You definitely aren’t alone in this!

@Relaxing2 I get the shakes too. Hope you feel better soon

Nogodsnomasters · 18/06/2019 09:04

theanswerisinabooksomewhere me too! It's great to know you're not alone. The worst bit is feeling totally irrational and not being able to stop feeling that was regardless, I actually annoy myself with the anxiety for goodness sake.

Op - my husband suffers from ibs so I understand how painful and upsetting it can be. Fortunately for him he's not afraid of poo so he doesn't have the added bonus of anxiety on top of it like you. Problem is, anxiety can cause diarrhea or make it worse so it's a catch 22 isn't it.

As a severe constipation sufferer, and also I remission from colon cancer after surgery, this is something Ive rarely suffered from.
However I do understand anxiety around toilet habits. I can go over a week without 'going' and that can cause me severe stress and discomfort.
It's crap isn't it? X

Nogodsnomasters · 18/06/2019 11:10

Op definitely anxiety and depression are a factor in ibs or toilet troubles, just know we're all here to hold your hand and we've all been there as well.

Relaxing2 · 18/06/2019 12:05

No problem, just try deep breathing when you get sweaty and shake, try to occupy your mind with something, a TV show, a word search, a book. It will always pass xx
